So I was talking to a guy the other day about running the presence on my Mark III way up, then re-EQing to match so it's not harsh / fizzy. It seems not many guys do / try this so I slapped together a video to show what I mean. Even if you re-EQ so that the basic sound is the same, the feel picks up way more girth.

The knob tweaking is never ending on Marks but I think that's part of the fun, chasing the tone in your head. Here's the clip. What sounds best to you?

Second one sounds best at 3:47 with presence at 5 IMO.

Presence maxed on every amp for me. Start treble at 0 and work your way up. More bite that way. My 2C+ sounds best with that setting.

Hearing the acoustics of the guitar being played is making it hard to hear the amp and how it tracks and reacts to your playing and the tone. Turn up the amp, move the mic closer to the sound source and get as far away from the mic when you play.

Listening to the video I like the way P=5 recorded, but in the room I'm liking the feel of P=8 with the 6600 slider about 1/3 of the way up.

In this clip I've got the volume just under 2, which is getting pretty loud for one of these. You can keep up with a drummer on 2. Much louder & the mic will start to clip. Easy for me to get farther back, though.

I was hoping for a SM57 for Christmas but it wasn't under the tree. :)

Spent some time today turning another knob- the tone knob on the guitar. Try this for high gain-

- Dime the presence
- Run the standard Boogie V
- Dial the guitar's tone knob all the way back
- Enough volume to get the tubes working

This really takes the high end harshness out while at the same time keeping it sounding very fat. A good side effect is you also lose most of the noise from sliding on the wound strings.

I have a Mark iii green stripe. I run the presence on 3 although I love the huge bottom that you get when you run the presence up a bit. I was thinking about sending it to Mesa to have the iii+ mod done to it. Anybody have any experience with that mod? I wouldn't mind if it was a touch smother but I dont want to lose its metal-ness. Great and underrated amp BTW..

Check out Mailman1971's posts on having his III+ done.
