what kind of cable can I use to replace this cable?
do I have to order one from Mesa?

I'd get it from Mesa boogie.

You picked up the mark IV? Good score!

After googling the footswitch, it appears as though the cable is hard wired to the footswitch, and not removable. Is this correct?

That is what I was thinking. I'm not sure if they changed that with different revisions or not, but if it is, you would have to buy a new foot switch, or get the cable and then solder it into the foot switch.

That is what I was wondering and hoping since that would be much easier. I am just unfamiliar with mesas to know if they did this type of change.

After a little more googling, appears its a 7pin din cable on the end. That can be a pain to solder onto a control board in the ftsw depending upon if you are comfortable with a soldering iron and have a multimeter to check which pin goes to what wire.

If they made a revision to the ftsw making the cable detachable, any 7 pin din with all 7 pin wired ( Not sure if they pull the same stuff as they do with "5 pin active") should work.

Would you be able to open the footswitch and take a pic of the board where the wires are going?

yeah I'm getting the amp tomorrow.
I've rewired plenty of stuff I think I could handle a footswitch as long as I can confirm the pinout

anyone know where to obtain said pinout of the mark iv footswitch?

then it would be as simple as acquiring a 7 pin cable!

I'd try Mesa boogie, they could probably get one to you.

If you have a multimeter, you can check the pins manually by putting one end on the pin and one end on the wire. It will read 0 unless you are on the same pin/wire.

Otherwise gotta give Mesa a call

It would be better for you to use a continuity tester setting on the multimeter so you hear a beep if the pins are connected to each other.

i see...I need to snatch up a multi meter!

I forget what to set it for (i could let you know if you go that route), but i have done that method before when figuring out footswitches and it works plus gives you an added level of satisfaction.

+1. Some multimeters are so touchy the numbers will change constantly for no reason even when they're not touching anything. I'd use the continuity setting as well

Very good point that i overlooked.

I will see if the pin out is on the schematic. It might be. Mesa will provide you with a schematic if you don't want to wait for me.

yeesh, opened up the footswitch and I don't know what's wrong, it's more than the cable but I can't pinpoint what the issue is.

I'm probably just going to flip the footswitch over to someone that wants to mess with it.

if you are interested, shoot me a PM.

Nick-

Call me. We can fix it I'm sure. I've got everything at the shop except the plug end, so as long as you have that, we can fix it.

Bring beer. :D

oh shnikeys, I just got your voicemail too!

I'll be in touch :)

Those FU-3 footswitches, last time I saw them on the Mesa Pricelist were around $200. I'm not sure what other gear you have laying around but there are 1/4 outs on the back of the MKIV for most every function and other ways you could go about switching if need be.

yup, I'm gonna give it a shot this weekend and try and repair it with my buddy Mike

if that doesn't work out, I'll be going the external switching route :)

damn this amp has so many options :)
