How many Bogner Fish reissues hit the used market weeks after they came out? People buy into the hype, buy without ever being able to hear it, and then find it doesn't work for them. The same would happen with a CII+ reissue. Not that either aren't great, but if you can't lay your hands on one, you have to buy to try. And if it doesn't work out the door it goes.

Scarcity creates buzz, so a CII+ reissue might kill that buzz about the "Legend". Scarcity creates demand, just ask Mark Cameron - how many people want those without ever trying them.

+1 Very good points. There is just something to owning something that is a bit rare and cool. I mean isn't the whole vintage amp market built on that....

This happens with most amps. There is always a matter of when to release because most things in this price range sell a lot at first then has waves after that. It was released around the time people get money back on tax returns. Also know as extra money to many of us. I can not say for sure this is the case .... but who knows.

Anything that is new well have people picking it up to check it out. This well always lead to people selling because of it not working for there taste at that time.

I personally have GAS for the Fortin MEATHEAD that is to be released this week. This replaced my GAS for MARSHA that replaced the V ... etc.

One thing I try to keep in mind is "What's the hurry".

If I was Randy I would make III next year and a II the year after that. Or as something like that to make as much money off the market as it would make possible.

The Market is starting to show signs of a turn around maybe happening. If there is a amp you always wanted this would be the time to pick it up as I see it. Who knows maybe it well dip lower.

Ive had a few mk IV's..Bought the V recently..Probably the best clean ch.boogie sound so far. Edge sounds so so.The IV settings would probably knock the socks off someone thats never played a 4 before. If you have, then thats a different story. The thing I find odd, is that boogie states that the preset knobs are the 5 band eq but in a knob instead..They dont dial in at all like the 5 band, and thats what the mk series are all about.

I thought it sounded pretty darn good on the high-gain shootout clips, but I've sadly never played a IV to compare it to :aww:

Try dialing in a 4 (consistently) to get the tones you can on the MV...

I gauge WHO is selling before I make any final judgement on an amp, some like Zao like to roll through amps because he enjoys it and I respect that. Some buy for the shock and awe that yeah baby look who one of the first owners is and here are my findings and I expect them to sell within 2 weeks. Some wanted to try it to see if it replaced old amps and that is cool too.

Randall tried to cram too many options in the MK V and the JP using the amp sightings caused the huge uproar on this one. I heard great reviews from guys that I know have great ears and are killer players and would have bought one if I was not on such a marshall type kick. I am happy with my IV, which seems to be gaining value by the day

In the end IMO if you want the perfect MK tone of all time slave a MK III coli with some old school 1/2 back mesa 4x12s and fucking hold on

I very much agree about the "who is selling". I had a feeling and said so about this whole thing bring up the value the amps they do not make anymore. Got to wonder if the IV well catch up with the II now that they do not make them. The III with 6 power tubes and the big transformer is the one to my ears.

I do not think anyone can out do that English roar. I took my THD Series One Plexi to band practice yesterday. What a great sound.

Amps based on the Marshall sound is where I am at also. It is the sound as far as I can tell. There are other great sounds. But this is for me the sound.

Like Scott said I do roll thru amps and enjoy it but I also deserve some credit for keeping some amps too, I owned my first uber for 2 years and gigged with it a bunch of times, my first powerball and last engl se were 2 years old each by the time I sold them, my Herbert and Mesa roadster and triple rect were both a year old when I sold them. I played my splawn and 5153 at gigs in band situations. And I did keep a few other amps for 6 months to a year or more. My avenger is 7 months old right now.

So yes I do flip alot of amps but I also keep some of them for a while too, I usually have 2 that are my main amps that I keep and then I have others I sell to buy and try.

I don't think I should be thought of like the other flavor of the month amp sellers.
I have been known to keep amps, I always try to be truthful about my feelings on amps too. I don't praise a amp unless I think it's really nice, I also say when I hate something.
I don't sugarcoat or bullshit either, if I think it sucks I'm not shy about saying it even if it upsets people, I got alot of heat for saying I hated the jvm, invader 150 and vh4.
I don't wanna be part of the " who is selling crowd".

So my point is I'm a little different than some of the other guys, I try to give good advise and help people, I also hope I'm not one of those guys that people disregard what I say because I sold some amps quick, I don't wanna be part of those guys that when I say something people won't listen to.

I still have my first amp. My Dad gave it to me when I was 6. That was almost 40 years ago. It is a "Stadium". 12ax7, EL84 and what ever rectifier, 8 in speaker. My Dad got it from his cousin long before that. I believe it is from the 50's. The thing sounds great.

Nothing wrong with flipping amps. I buy and sell about 2 or 3 a year. Have about a dozen. There are a lot of places to check out the new stuff in Seattle. It is only a matter of taking a ride to check out just about anything. Most of stuff I figure out pretty quick this is not for me. But in a lot of cases you need more time to see if it really works for you. It is all apples and oranges anyway. No amp is for everyone.

Flip amps away if you can, some folks I guess are just in that kind of "position" to be able to do that.. I agree w/ the "who is selling" point for sure...I also, along w/ many others are putting in 40 hr work weeks, saving and saving on a less than 6 figure income to have the privilege to buy nice gear. And when we do buy, i can only hope that we really give each amp a fair shot at producing a killer tone...Ive mowed extra lawns, gave a ton of guitar lessons, and saved every tip to get in the last 15 years-and I still own: Bogner fish, soldano x88r,custom shop badcat pre, triaxis, namm Einstien,7 diezel cabs, vht 2150& classic,+new ones coming& loving them all!

Can you compare the X88 and Fish? I have a custom modded Fish from Reinhold, and I love my SLO and X99, but have never had a chance to play an X88.

3 things to add to this good thread:

1> I totally agree with the above quote and think it's the way a large % of non-pro guitarists operate. And those who do save & save...try stuff out...and decide on a MkV, will probably enjoy it for what it is for years.
2> I dis-agree with the title of this thread. All I see are guys who have an amazing array of top-$ amps in their stable who were one of the first to own a MkV, and have already dismissed it for it lacking something they figured it had. (yes, I expect exceptions on this, but still stand by it) I'm on the Boogie-Board a lot, and the feedback there is generally fantastic on this amp. (& those guys know how to complain about details just like the rest of us)
3> Could ANY amp live up to the MkV pre-release hype? I file this with the expectations on the Guns-&-Roses record.

There are some vintage amps that are all that. Not all of them sound great of course, but there are some special ones. :)

I sold mine and I love the Mark series amps. IMO channel 3 was DEAD compared to other Marks. Too boxy/stiff/lifeless/etc, like a Mark IV with it's nads removed. I had very high hopes and I thought pre-ordering one was a no-brainer. I was wrong.

My thoughts exactly. It's puzzling that they got channels 1 and 2 right for the most part but fucked up channel 3. And the used prices are dropping fast, i saw one on the Boogie forum for $1700. Funny that Mark IV prices will probably go up and demand for used IIC+ will probably increase. Pretty much the opposite outcome that Mesa was looking for.

Unfortunately, I agree. I hope the V catches on but fear it may not. Channel 3 was a disappointment. I did like the Extreme channel though. My IIC+ came in yesterday and can already say that it sounds great. Much more open sounding then the V. I was surprised that I found a great lead tone within minutes. Way too early to give a review but already head and shoulders above my initial thoughts around the V.

Eh, FWIW the only reason I'm selling mine is to grab that modded Uber.  I thought it was a pretty nice amp overall personally. *shrug*

I actually considered the Fortin Cali Mod JCM 800. The You Tube clip sounded fantastic but I would want to play it before I went that route. I went the Splawn QR route for my hot rodded Marshall fix and it just didn't fit the bill for me. His Cali modded 800 sounds fantastic with just a hint of modern voicing. This IIC+ sounds great. I am beginning to understand what Dan (Danyeo1) was saying about the simplicity of the IIC+. It was so easy to dial in compared to the V.

Here is a clip of the Cali modded JCM 800

If I feel like taking a chance I would just save up for a cheap, used 800 and send it to Mike for the mod. I wouldn't mind owning two amps. I will have some IIC+ clips up by this weekend.
