I have been offered a 1959 SLP reissue in trade and I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts about this head?
would it be a good High Gain amp with the right pedal in front of it?
Thoughts?

I cannot imagine it not being good for just about anything. Besides, you would NEVER have trouble trading or selling it if ou didn't like it.

Really loud and really clean, that's about all i can really say about it. I didn't much care for the one I had that was stock, if you were going to get it modded then it might be worth it. I just prefer most amps' distortion to that of pedals when it comes to high gain.

A friend of mine owns one. It is the loudest amp I have ever heard. He did a simple master volume mod on it and that helped a lot. I really liked it stock with a V1 OCD.

Very good for vintage sounds, will definitely need an overdrive pedal in front to get high gain sounds. Without a master volume mod or a decent attenuator, you're gonna have to crank it to get the tone these are known for. Try one out before trading if you can.

Perhaps not as good as the boutique clones of the originals, but the SLP is a good amp. As was stated, you'll probably want an attenuator. You can do a MV mod, each type having their own downside.

It's fairly versatile with a good, lower output guitar (cleans and crunch) and a couple pedals (higher gain), but will not do high gain metal well.

I have one that is modded. In the lowest setting just cracking the master will kill small animals.

I had a '93 and it was a great amp with a boost. Loud and clean up until about 7-1/2. Outstanding jumpered with a SD-1 in front of it with it's volume dimed and gain on zero. Kicks like a mule cranked & boosted.
