i through my head in the van today and went to try out some cabinets/speakers,..i have come to the conclusion that i am willing to sell my soul for a cab with greenbacks!!...the 2 best cabs i tried were a marshall vintage modern and the EVH 3 cabs,...BUT!!...i saw an old marshall 8x10 cab in my travels,..i used to have an old sunn 6x12 cab (the speakers were mounted in a "v",..sunn called it an "infinite baffle" if i rember correctly.)..i loved that old sunn cab,..it might be the "one" piece of gear that i regret selling the most!..so any way,..i looked at the marshall 8x10 with it's $1800. price tage,..and plugged into it,..GOOD GRAVY!!...how could those 10" speakers have that kinda bass response!,..definatley louder,..sweeter sounding,..more, more crunchy!,,more of everything good!..than a stack!!,..i went out in my van and smoked 3 cig's debating if i should go back in there and put it on my maxxed out credit card!,..

seriously,...i havent found a piece of equipment in almost 20 years that is that good for my sound.

so if anyone wants to buy a like new,..mesa recto cab and a well worn soul...

I know what you mean. Here is a pic of my marshall 8x10 cab circa 1991. I picked it up along with the jcm 800 sitting on top of it for a whopping $310.00!! It was loaded with jensens and was the best sounding cab ever. I played it with a mesa 50. cal plus for many years and it brought the CHUNK  I think I traded it for a silver jubilee 2x12 cab that sounded like ass in comparison cause I couldn't fit it in my car or something stupid like that...

$1,800 for the cab

$18,000 for the chiropractor

still, that tone is AWESOME though

I have one of those 8X10 cabs and I really dont think its very heavy. I also have the head that goes along with it. I don't ever play on it though........maybe I need to break it out.

Those 8x10 cabs are really cool. I was close to owning several, but I never ended up pulling the trigger. With the right amp the cabinet sounds amazing. The cool thing you could do is remove the front panel and make a 4x12 staggered cut out and use new cloth. That would be a very cool 4x12

ya know,..when he told me it had 10" speakers i was thinking "ohh,..that cant be good"....but after playing it,...i may have to reconsider there value!..considering there are so many bass cabs with 10" speakers,...oh,..and after doing a little home work...there were 3 different versions of this cab,...which one i played i dont know,...but one of them was a dual guitar/bass cab,...

Maybe what you loved about the tone was just the 10" speakers in general, and not the fact that there were 8 of them. 2 or 4 10's will still give you that same dynamic feel that the 8x10 cab had, at least to a point.
Maybe you found that 10's are 'your sound'. I would try to find a smaller, reasonably priced 4x10 and try it before you sell your soul! ;)

Shit, I was 20 years old and back then they were somewhat desireable but none of the used/vintage shops in town would give me anything for it, so I traded it on impulse   It had wheels on the bottom and I would lay it down on it's side cause the marshall head was too big to stand it upright and looked stupid. I later picked up a boogie and it fit much better. I worked in a little music store on the southside of Atlanta for a few years and some guy in town came in and told me about it...he needed some cash and all I had was $310.00!! He came back after the shop was closed and we did the deal; it was probably stolen for all I know but I didn't care, I had a Marshall  It actually fit in my '84 camaro, just had to fold the front seat down and it wasn't that heavy, just akward. At the time I planned to sell the cab and buy a 4x12 with the proceeds but after I plugged it in I decided to hang on to it.
