Hey, guys!
I've been looking in to getting a marshall in a box type pedal for some time now. I feel like I'm already leaning towards the Carl Martin stuff, just based on what I hear on good recorded clips like Pete Thorn's and others that I have come across, but I was just wondering what everyone is digging.
I like the idea of the original because it has two different gain structures and a boost. I dig that.
However, I hear it can be fussy with certain amps. I dig brighter American clean tones for sure with a little breakup, but, I hear it's better with a more neutral sounding clean. I also hear that the single channel is a little more versatile in that regard, but not sure? And in the case of versatility, there is also the Vertex Mod to the Plexitone.
Keep in mind, I'm still working out a pedal friendly gigging setup. I'm leaning towards something like the Suhr Bella, or a Fender Bassman with a 212.
Anybody ever compare all three versions at once? The OG, single channel, and Vertex mod? If not, anyone at least compare the original and the vertex? Is it possible to get the same sound out of the Vertex as the original if desired, or does it make it a lot different? More amp friendly? Would love to hear the scoop!
I'd also love to hear anyone's take on other Marshall in box type pedals, but, I really like how the Carl Martin keeps from collapsing on itself when playing high on the low E on the neck pickup. That's a big thing for me. I have an XTS Atomic overdrive, but this doesn't do so well in that regard. Great pedal and love it; It certainly has it's place
but, that's what I dig about the Carl Martin based on Pete Thorn's findings and other well recorded demos I've heard.
The grand plan is eventually to get a Musicom or something similar, so if anything, if it only likes duller sounding American amps (should I go the Bassman route), I can probably make that pedal go to a different channel of a bassman for example I imagine? Not sure though. Anyway, I'm rambling.
Thanks, guys!
Mike.
