Marshall JCM800 2203, 82/83

So, there is an 2203 from 1982 in the Classifieds section. Some of the guys were suggesting, that the years 1982-1983 were „the best“ for these amps.
So instead of hijacking the thread, maybe someone can elaborate this here?

I am aware of the changes that were made later to the 2203. But what about the amps from lets say 1981?

IIRC they only did vertical inputs between those years with the pots connected to the chassis & flying leads to the board; I could be wrong though - still coming up to speed on all of this stuff.

That one might be good if theres clips. I bought an '83 2203 and it was probably the worst amp I've ever had.

That's odd though - those should be rock solid unless it's been modded / worked on or faulty to some degree?

I think its a dice roll with a 40+ year old amp. Looked brand new oddly enough. In contrast I had a '77 Jmp that sounded (with a pedal) exactly like early metal. Slayer even.
