What do you guys think?

There's a 68 Marshall Major for sale near me. You don't hear much about these and I have no use for 200 watts in stock form.

Maybe I can get a deal on it!

Marshall majors are siiiick! Get one if it's cheap. You can always pull 2 tubes or I guess Dave can convert it to EL34 for you.
I've just tried one from sixty whatever, real plexi glass, built for the national radio and used for the lottery draw announcements for 20 years   The one and only Marshall head from that era I've seen with a factory built line out on it.

I don't think you can run a 200 watt amp on four EL-34's.

probably can if you pull the right tube in each pair as they are push pull, but I think you have to recalculate the speaker impedance. Easier on a 100w with a 4ohm setting as you can increase to 8 or 16. At least that is how I saw it done once, beyond rebiasing with the removed tubes. I think the tone sucks though when you do this and it beats up the tubes

The original majors run on 4 KT-88s, I bet Dave can covert it to EL-34s and voila you have a 100w amp.

Would you have to swap transformers ?

Yeah I could mod it but it will be a beast. Yes 2 tubes could be pulled. The amp will sound like a train running through a concrete wall. Could be cool.

That crash needs a new soundtrack.
