The list of guitarists that used plexis is long, and know. Hendrix, AC/DC, early Kiss, Yngwie, Rhoads, ...

Besides Kiss, one of my fav plexi tones is Paul Kossoff (Free); looking into it he preferred Celestion G12H-55hz bass speaker, and often used two plexi 100w heads one each for two 8x12 cabs. (also used 4x12 cabs), and Orange amps,

Another user was Jeff Beck, still using a Les Paul, with the Jeff Beck Group

when you think plexi tones, who/what guitarists/songs come to mind?

Anything from the 70’s…lol… allman brothers at the Fillmore… that’s some low gain pure tone…. That foghat rnr album has some great raunch on it. I always assumed it was just dimed plexi’s…..

I think of orange, not marshall with free

says Kossoff usually used Marshalls and occasionally Orange when I looked. Some of the more famous vids he's using Orange

They had a JMP from the early 80s at GC last night that I so badly wanted to try out with an SD1. Unfortunately, the amp was not turning on for some reason.

The backline at The Beat Club in Germany was Orange amps for a while in the late 60s-early 70s. Many groups were filmed there and it certainly gave the impression that they were Orange users.

Koss had it! Killer tone, feel and of course the vibrato! Another great band with killer plexi tones was Humble Pie. Rocking the Fillmore with both Steve Marriott and Peter Frampton. Awesome! The live stuff after Frampton left & Clem Clempson took over is also killer. Clem seemed to have a little more aggression/fire in his playing. If you can track down the King Biscuit Flower Hour live album, its worth it.

The Bass cabs would have had M25 55Hz, T1511s mostly. The 1982 cabs would have had H30s. So in all probability Kossoff played through M25s with the 014 or 4 stamp....cabs that had BASS in the upper L corner of the grill. Hendrix, seeing those taller cabs he's pictured with would be the higher wattage 1982 cabs with H30s.
But, these guys used whatever they could get at the time...they weren't as discerning as we are today. Hendrix recorded with many Fender setups as well.

Lots of killer tones of course back then...and through the 70s. My 68, turned up is simply awesome.

Yep. His Famous SuperBass. That with his 59 LP through Marshall Bass cabs. I listen to "I'll be Creepin" for a 'B' side Free tune occasionally...damn could Rodgers wail...

Maybe they aren’t actually plexi’s, not sure? But these are “go to” plexi riffs for me personally.
