Marshall -- Which?

If guys HAD to pick a NEW Marshall, NOT a mod, which one would it be? Why?
 
Prob a vintage modern 100 watt.

I've played them on four diff occasions, and liked it two times.

Batting .500, not bad for new amps these days.
 
try a dsl as well. I have a DSL50 and it's doing great job. I have mad gas for a VM100 and I don't know why... :cry:
 
JVM without a doubt.
It can easily cover every nuance of the VM, and take it to retardo gain and very nice cleans.

If I had to buy a new Marshall it would be a Bogner Ecstacy. :thumbsup:
 
What type of music? I'd go with a Blankenship Variplex.

If I have to stick with a Marshall, I'd go for the most authentic Plexi-type
amp they make that's not astronomical (JH100 is what I mean) in price.

I'd get either the DSL or a 1959 HW - DSL because they do sound really good. 1959 HW because nothing sounds like a plexi! (but I would really want to mod the 1959HW)
 
None. Im done with Marshall.. There great for classic rock crunch but thats about it (without mods or pedals). Ive had a jcm900, dsl100, and a plexi.. I sold them all.. The jcm900 and the dsl100 were very fuzzy and they have no sustain.. Like i said only really good for rhythm without a boast. I liked the plexi a lot but would boast it with pedals all the time.. They were also a big pain to get a good sound when trying to record. way to much fuzzy high end IMO. I played a Herbert and it was a big eye opener. fender cleans, marshall crunch, and smooth clean leads. To bad there 4k. :lol: :LOL:

Herbert= Fender cleans???? Umm Not even close
Marshall Crunch? Completely different voice in every aspect.
Smooth clean leads- Yes in a modern sense.
The JCM900 and most DSL's are the bottom of the barrel as far as Marshall sounds go, and they sure as hell can't do do the classic Marshall Crunch.
I think a VM or JVM would cover that a lot better.

If you want all of it in one package, the JVM will do it. It is their highest, most saturated gain to date along with the best clean to date. It can also nail all the plexi and 800 tones in spades.
Plus the fact that Marshalls are about the easiest amps to record to get the fullest sound without buzzyness if you even half way know how to place a mic.

I picked up a used JMP-1 preamp and it kills; saw a few here for sale (less than what I paid, thanks guys! :gethim: )

It has great versatility, just using the JMP-1 I can get a good plexi, JTM45, and more. If I was going to go back to an amp stack, I'd get a backup JMP-1, the EL34 100/100 (pictured) and a stereo 4x12 Marshall cab. Maybe even a JFX-1 too just to be consistent! ;)
