While the verse and chorus of Leper Messiah might be a little duller, the interlude or middle section with that E minor riff is one of my favorite moments on the album. Kirk sounds like he was struggling to play that solo, but I kind of like how the whole track sounds a little less polished and raw. And since a lot of the album was about manipulation, the lyrics of this song really hit home for a lot of us who've been involved in "groups."

Leper Messiah is one of the most underrated (and underplayed) songs in the entire Metallica catalog. It's a powerfully angry song, I miss that kind of fire in Metallica....

What makes you say that about the drums? They are not samples.

Ya, Fleming said they recorded the songs at a slower speed and sped up the tape. I've heard rumours for years that there may have been ghost drummers on AJFA and the Bob Rock albums. Metallica even digitally fix the drums on the live videos they release on youtube to this day. There rare quite a few licks on AJFA that Lars has never played live.

If that is true then that's fucking hysterical. I get early on your skillset might not be up to par, but even to this day decades later not being able to play your own songs is wild.
