Mesa 2x12 vs mesa 4x12 os

I have a 4x12 OS. Love it.

I had a 2x12 compact. Hated it. I hear if you want a 2x12 get the vertical slant.

Just got an old style 1x12 recto (not mini recto). Think I'm going to love it.

I like max cubic inches in my cabs, apparently.

I have both and like both. They're different. The 2x12 is nice and punchy and tight. The OS roars. Just depends on what you dig.

I like both as well. They are both quite a bit different and have unique tones! Thanks for your input as i like to hear what people think of them.

I have the 212 recto and have played most of the 412s, including several older style (metal grill), Road King, etc. The 212 is great for recording but very directional. Not my favorite for live use unless you stack two of them.

I like the Traditional 412 for most applications. It's very balanced and makes the V30s a bit more "pleasing" sounding while still being very aggressive. Also has a tighter response than the OS. The OS can be cool to make some amps sound bigger, such as the Mark series. Since the Mark are mid focused and almost honky/nasally, the OS scoops some of that out and gives it a bigger saggier feel which the Mark can afford since it's a tight amp to begin with. Depends on amp and style.

+1 on the vertical slant. I think they sound better than the horizontal.

+2 on the vertical slant....... cuz I have 2 of them ;)

And it looks cooler than the horizontal.

Nice!! Great to hear all this feedback. I learn something new everyday on here!

Don't like the OS. Have and love the 2x12 vertical but you can't got wrong with the horizontal or the 4x12 traditional.

I had the 2x12 years ago. Like 8-9 years ago. It sounded pretty good on cleans, in which I usually hate v30's for cleans. But sounded kinda muffled and boxy on lead channel. Ended up selling. I had a quickrod head at the time. Probably didn't match that well with it

Never played the 2x12 but the OS was definitely too Bassy or "boomy" as they say. I think I would really like the Mesa trad because if you took the bass or the boom away it would've sounded great.

I had my bass dial on my amp at zero, completely off and it was still entirely way too much bass. It was quite ridiculous actually but I guess my amp has a pretty massive low end.

It may work well with other amps as stated above that are more mid heavy perhaps.

I really like my Mesa Rectifier Horizontal 2x12. It sounds huge and has great clarity and bass response. Much better than the OS 4x12 IMO which can be flubby and boomy on the bass end.

Saying that, my go to cab is the Bogner OS 2x12. It kills them both IMO.

I've owned two OS slant 4x12s over the years and never had an issue with them being boomy.
