Mesa Boogie 5 Band Graphic EQ...hmm

Finally listened to the eq demo. Like most everyone else I liked the pre eq tone a lot better. It's like he went from a nice gigging tone, to a bedroom cheap amp metal tone with the eq on.

The flux five demo was much better.

The EQ is the same as is used in all of our classic amp designs - meaning, it uses the full-size components -slider potentiometers, inductors, etc. Thanks!

Best used in the loop?

It can be used in front or in the loop. When used in the loop it acts more like our built-in 5-band EQ. Thanks!

Does it use the higher voltage in the amp even though it uses a 9V power supply?

Voltages are the same as what is used in the amp, all done internally. Thanks!

Can you send me one like, right now? I'll make a cool video with my Triple Reborn :D

I liked the flux drive & throttle box demos much better.I can see those two definitely taking residence on many pedalboards...how bout an updated midi matrix?..

I don't like the 5-band on Mesa Boogies, so this isn't for me. What does this EQ have that previous pedals can't? How's it going to match up against common EQs like MXR?

Whats really different about this EQ besides our particular circuit, frequencies, and sweep - is that its using full size components - potentiometers and inductors. No smaller pedal is using full size pots or inductors, and there is a definite difference in tone quality. Thanks!

Eq pedals with fixed frequencies are archaic at best.

There is no such thing as one size fits all, every situation is unique and needs unique frequencies trimmed or boosted.

These types of pedals exist because guitarists don't understand the more complicated EQ.

This is not an excuse to be lazy ! It should be motivation to properly learn how to use parametric eq.

Preach it man.

Now I know that something out there annoys everyone. I get annoyed with traffic, you can't stand graphic EQ's. :D

Haven't heard a pedal yet into a dead clean sound do an overdrive tone better then the amp itself.

Agree. But there are plenty of amps that have no overdrive. The Blackface circuit designs to name a few. There are few amps with better cleans so it's nice to have a killer pedal like the Bogners to produce a legit drive sound with them.
Those bogner pedals sound phenomenal straight into my 64 Princeton reverbs and my 68 bandmaster reverb. In this case, the mesa eq would work really nice, I'd think.

Hmmm...so you're saying bigger pots have better tone? You're implying it at least.

When are we going to see the new Mesa Mega-Pot head made with pots the size of hamburgers for that real meaty tone quality.
Marketing adds will read:
GOT BEEF?!
:D

Uh, I'm not buying that bigger/full size pots have better tone just due to size.
But then, I've never tested it.

I think what they are saying is it is the same components as the Mk series. For those of us with a Mk amp without a GEQ it might be a good addition. IIRC there was an article somewhere with one of the Mesa guys saying they preferred the Mk IIC+ and/or other Mk's without the GEQ

What do you guys think?

Probably nice quality, and well though out frequenzies.
I dunno if the Recto really needs a scooped graphic eq in the loop, though :D

Maybe 2 EQ scoops in SERIES would create a Black Hole in the Tone !
