Mesa Boogie Mark III combo cab re-purpose!!

So I picked up a couple Mark III combos over the last month. A Blue Stripe DRG and a No Stripe HRG. Awesome amps!


Anyways, I also picked up some head shells and converted them. I have two empty combo cabs that intended on trying to sell. It occurred to me there probably isn't a big market for them. So I decided to convert them to a closed back 1x12.

This is the first. A prototype if you will. I'm actually quite amazed at how good it sounds. I put the EV in it and it smokes! Don't know if I will be selling them now!! ?

About $40 in material and a couple hours of labor.

I just took measurements and went to Home Depot and them cut it the Woodford me.

sounded too shallow and dinky sounding compared to a real 1x12. boogies extension cabs are a few inches deeper. I tried this myself back in the day.... but eh, to each his own. I got way more than i expected when i sold my c90 loaded, empty mark IV combo cab on ebay 2 weeks ago. so if you end up not liking it, flip it. someone will buy it. the boogie logos alone bring in 40-50 bucks.

I'm actually quite impressed to be honest. It sounds really good. I mean it's a 1x12 not 4x12. With that being said it sounds bigger than I expected and a 100 x better than it did as a combo. I'm working on the second one now. We'll see how the 2 sound together.

Again, as you eluded to, it will much easier to sell a closed back 1x12 cab as opposed to an empty combo shell.
