So, I just spent 20 minutes with my new mini rectifier. Let me answer a few questions that I've heard.

  • 1. Yes, it's really a recto in that tiny package
    2. Yes, it has the bass response and wall of sound of a full size recto
    3. The clean is impressive: dynamic and full, think Lonestar Special
    4. Yes, it's freaking loud

Again I've only spent 20 minutes with it. I ran it through a recto cab, a Port City OS 2x12 (v30s), and a Port City OS 1x12 with an EVM-12L. It sounds killer. It's every bit the recto my Roadster is (obviously not as versatile, no reverb, not as much headroom, etc) but incredible in its own right. It is incredibly dynamic, that's what strikes me the most. I've never heard the EVM-12L sound like that. :)

I'll reserve verdict on value after I've spent more time with it. Honeymoon period is the wrong time for that. First impressions are it's built like a tank, sounds great, and it's perfectly suitable for a lot of gigs.

If it's really a Recto, what kind of rectifier tube does it have?
I'm talking tone. You can read the spec sheet as well as the rest of us.

Looks like SS mini rectumfication...

The same one the Single Recto comes with...

Yeah, I tried one yesterday and one of the first thought I had was that it sounded a lot like the Single Rectifier I used to own.
Cool little amp.

I've got one coming on Tuesday. Can't wait! I was looking to upgrade from my Dual Rec to the Reborn because the Clean is supposed to be so much better and the 50 watt option per channel, but missed out on a couple re-born's and got hooked on the idea of a lower watt rectifier with what seem to be good cleans.

I think you'll be happy. I love how responsive it is. It'll be cheap to retube too :-)

I'm not Mesa fan but this amp is soooooo cute that I simply want one

Is there any channel switching delay or fade from clean to dirty?

How badass would it be to have a roadcase with the mini recto and 4-6 spaces for your rack gear? Definitely contemplating building a rig around this once they hit the used market after a good while.... thanks for sharing man, been really curious about these... wish there were some better demos on Youtube other than Mesa's videos.

I ordered mine as soon as it came out, but it was on back order - when they contacted me to say it was in, I almost backed out because I have never bought an amp new - the $999 price tag is steep price tag compared to some other mini-amps, but I have always thought Mesa makes great stuff and I would rather buy something built in the USA and pay a little more. That said I prefer to buy built in the USA and Used :D

There is no delay or fade on the channel switching. It's instantaneous with no delay, bleed, or fade.

Yeah, IMO, the Mesa videos (while better than some of their others), don't do it justice. They sound very one dimensional.

Wow, that would make it better than my Series II Single Rec in that respect...

I visited the factory in Petaluma a couple of weeks ago and I was told they are coming with optional brackets to rack mount the mini Recto. It's just a matter of time.

Apologies for raising this one from the dead, but did these Mini Rectifier rack mounting brackets ever appear?
