Mesa Dual Rec Rev F Questions

Played mine today, it’s still amazing

Def one of the best amps I’ve owned. That’s saying a lot!
Curious, if you had to slim down, let’s say to 2 amps, what would be your keepers?
I’m thinking the SS and Rev F would have me covered for anything.

The Juno was cool but I play in drop D most of the time or drop C# and to my ears KSR amps in general excel in lower tunings than that. They don’t have the same bounce as say a Recto. As far as two amps, that’s a tough one. I rarely use a clean channel but the SS100 clean is great, but for higher gain stuff the Rev F beats it, it may beat every amp I’ve owned for that matter.

Nice. I’ve found killer sounds in both channels, both modes.
I dialed the red channel to settings I found for one of the Korn guitarists, presence cranked and treble around 1 oclock, totally not what I would do, but it sounds ripping. Plenty of attack and gain, no need for a boost.

That sounds similar to how I dialed in my last SLO, although the treble was lower. I dial my presence very high in every amp and start the treble off at 0 and go from there. Did the same with the Rev G Triple and sounded eerily like my SLO. I have to do that for the bite I like. I think I got those settings from the SLO forum, and it was from a 91 pic of EVH and his settings. If I remember correctly.
I have a Chrome/Black Rev G triple on hold, I think I might send it to Mike B for the Rev C Mod...it's only 150 plus whatever Mesa finds to refurbish/checkup. I'll look at the board to know for sure but the serial sticker is gone, and the back panel indicates its a G.

Yup, any 2 channel Dual/Trip Mike B can mod to Rev C lead channel specs. You lose the clean, as it gets pretty dirty but the lead channel is spot on Rev C. There are some discussions on how to do this yourself on the Boogie Board, but at 150 to have Mike do it is worth it. IMO.

Glad you dig it. It has that "sound" that's instantly recognizable. I think that's one of the coolest things when you can nail a recorded tone that is so familiar to your ears... and you can consistently reproduce it at home. Sort of mind blowing.

You can Retro mod the 2 channels, but the work will run more like $650. Once you include shipping ($100-$150), general Mesa service work ($250-$350), and the cost of the mod itself. The orange channel is changed, and you can no longer dial in a clean sound. Also it's not 100% the same as a factory original Rev C-F etc, but close.

I'd only do it if I had more than 1 of each version though, as with most things their are trade offs +s/-s, and the Rev F sounds great as is.

Yeah it depends on what else needs to be done. I'm waiting on Mike to finish up on a C+ Coli right now. But I've shipped two other amps to Mesa, a 2C and a 2B coli. The shipping was 60 for me, 40 for Mesa..both amps needed an additional 120-150 refreshing, and then you add the mod. So my experience so far has been less than 300 for shipping both ways and the Mesa refresh fee. So my estimate will be around 400 total. And, Mike says the lead channel will be exact....but then you factor in the different transformers than the Cs. Of course, there were no C Triples so really can't give an honest comparison anyway. My shipping might be cheaper than yours, since I'm in the midwest. Plus I ship chassis only.
I figure, It'll need a refresh anyway by Mike, why not do the C mod since it's there?

I found one on Mpls craigslist for 1200, couldn't swing it. Pretty sure a RTer bought it and had it up for 2400 on Reverb.....I missed out on one at a GC in SD for 1099 and it was gone quick....I think a fair price is 1500 or so, the F duals I've seen go for 1200 at a GC, last week there was an F Racto on Ebay for 1400, that's a fair price for a racktifier..those are rare.

Depends if it’s clean inside... and that’s a big if. Also check the transformers. High, but not unreasonable if it’s clean inside and mint outside.

Shipping to Cali for me is like $120-$150 one way. I always ship the chassis in the cab too. And depends what you want done in the basic service. I’m picky.
