I am not a Boogie guy at all and I love the 5150III 50 watter. It is still on the outside edge of being Marshally, but it is so different to the Marshall tones I like, for me it is worth having in addition to Marshalls.

I don't know what was up with the EVH you were playing, but I've owned both at the same time, and the EVH has way less fizz than the 6505. Like WAAAAAY less. In fact, it's just like a super smooth and refined 6505. Also, the EVH has just as much, if not more balls. It's just a "smoother" kind of balls.lolzgreg":1eamdcqi said:I'd say Mark IV as well Carl. It took awhile to dial in but I'm digging it! It's nothing like my Marshalls or Landry. The Landry is like a great 800 series Marshall w/ more gain. The Landry's Clean and MK V's Clean may be in the same ballpark.
I haven't owned a Mark amp since the MK III and Quad Preamp in the 90's.

This is exactly what I was going to say...word for word, including the smileysGainfreak":19n8r8qf said:Sup Carl ,
My take on it is if you really want to get away from the Marshall type vibe, Id go with the Boogie. I still think the 5150 III is still in the Modded Marshall catagory. The gain stages on the Mark are setup differently and the Graphic EQ will keep you busy dialing in new tones for years![]()

With that said, If you winde up with either amp, don't think that you could lose. I know the price on the EVH makes is a hell of a more attractive, that's for sure![]()
