Ok so I already know it needs new caps but the master volume thing does not seem to be working right however never had a Rev F with the series effects loop. But when i switched it to fx on orange and red and turned up the solo knob it was real low and sounded bad. Also the orange clean didn't sound right on modern I only messed with it briefly so I'm not sure if that's a sign of anything bad happening. I know it probably needs new tubes and needs a little work my biggest fear is that the Transformers might be going and I'm not exactly sure how to replace Schumacher transformers like where i could get them from. The clean channel actually sounds pretty good though let me know what you guys think. Also side note question I had a rackto why is the orange channel in these things on modern the money tone?

Send it to mesa for a tune up. They have great customer service and reasonable rates.

Send that bad boy to FJA for a mod and a rework. It will come back robbing you out of your lunch money. :D
It will be that mean bad ass.

lol i do work part time for a licenced mesa tech but sending it to FJA is intriguing how much would that cost?

I am not sure but about $500?
Have to check with Jerry. I got nothing but open mouth slack jaw stares from other guys coming over to check out the modded Recto. Really is that good.

I want to know what Fluff has done to his there's these 2 toggle switches on it by the gain knobs now

Mine has a built in gain boost as well that FJA put in. But honestly I would rather throw a tube screamer in front of it.
Toss a Graphic EQ in the loop......SEX. :D

yeah that's what i'm planning on I wish my MarkV sounded better lol my tech is gonna be pissed when I sell it

Your transformers are fine.

I had some FX loop trouble with my rev F a long time ago. I sent it to Mesa and had them fix it. If you intend to keep this rev F for some time, I'd box it up and send it to Mesa and let them figure out what it needs, and what it doesn't need.

When my pre 500 needs caps, I'm going to personally drive it there, and return to pick it up. I'm only a couple hours from Mesa HQ though.

??? I would think he could figure out the problem/s ???

try jumping the fx loop and turning the send level up. see if this makes a difference and narrow your problem. your transformers are find and are irreplaceable. there are no more.

They're bright switches. Wish my Tremoverb had those.

I would by no means mod that revision F, if you want to mod a rectifier get a Rev G and have fun at it, but you will kill the value on the Rev F by having it modded besides little things like transformer replacment.

FYI, on Boogie Board talk to Silverwolf, not sure if he is on here but he has talked to mesa over and over again on the Pre-500's and any of the rec's that have the Mark Trannies. He has told me that according to Mesa they have changed out the transformers on older amps with the Mark Transformers if they get them in the shop for repair because those trannies are known to take out the mother board if you lose a tube or pair etc... According to Silver Mesa says none of the artists ever complained about the amp being different or sounding worse once they took them out.

I plan on changing out the trannies on my Rev F just to be safe and keep the originals if I ever sell, honestly most of the tone from the Pre 500 has nothing to do with the trannies and more to do with the circuit revisions, the trannies will effect more of tightness/looseness then anything but getting a good aftermarket Trannie will do the job just fine.

That's good info unfortunately boogie board is down so i haven't been able to talk to anyone I'm thinking if i mod it'll be a 3 channel I mod love those amps lol
