Mesa standard or traditional?

I had the same question not too long ago and went with the Traditional angled.

I thought I wanted the straight but a friend talked me into getting the angled so I could hear the frequencies better.

I used to have both and preferred the traditional at the time. Now whenever I hear shootouts I always prefer the standard. Hopefully that helps lol.

Helps a ton.  :D

Traditional for classic rock and blues rock; Standard for modern heavier rock and metal

I've owned both at the same time, and the traditional sounded the best to my ears. I ended up selling the Standard. I believe it's approx the same size as Marshall 1960. I'm not a big fan of oversized 4x12's.

This! More focused, less harsh and overall tighter response and more pleasing. Angled sounds great too as stated above. Standard can sound great and probably better for certain amps but I like the more present midrange and tighter feel of the Traditional.

I play metal through my traditional and I honestly can't imagine wanting anything 'woofier'. If you like tight percussive type stuff then the Traditional would seem to be the way to go. Never played both or ABY'd them. When I think of the Standard I think of Korn type stuff (love Korn BTW).

Remember that Oversized one that LOLGreg had? That thing sounded great!

Traditional straight. Tight and focused with heavy palm muted riffing. Recto standard sounds like a woofy flub fest with any modern metal amp. Recto heads sound good through them because they don't actually have that much bass to them to begin with and the added space doesn't hurt.

For me it's the traditional all the way. I owned both side by side. Basically ended up hating the oversized cab...

Ive played that one several time. Best sounding standard Ive heard.. I own a traditional though which also sounds great. In general I like the traditional more than the standard. There is something special about the one lolgreg has though, better than the rest Ive tried.

You're kidding right? If you can't dial in wall shattering bottom with a Recto then it's broken.

I have had both and prefer the traditional by a mile. The standard has a built in frequency in the low end that you simply cannot dial out. That cab made me flip so much gear, especially heads. Thankfully I realized it was the cab and got a traditional. My gas has stopped and I can once again concentrate on making music and not obsess over "tone".

Btw if you get a traditional, rewire it with 12 gauge wire. The bottom end it pumps out is insane and addictive.

Traditional straight. Always thought the standard/oversized ones had too much bottom end.

Way back when I bought my roadster, the salesman had me play through the standard (which I was planning to buy as well). He then said "just humor me and try it through the traditional. I actually prefer the smaller cab." I've been hooked on the traditional since. I haven't tried vertical vs slant, so no preference there (yet).
