Yes. And vice versa, and that's why I don't like lunchbox amps. Although some are cool, like the Tremonti one.
I don’t like lunch box amps either ! 100 watts is my wheelhouse. I don’t like 50 watt either. 100 watts just sounds better ! Plus I don’t like KT88’s.

Let's face it: There is 3, i repeat 3 Genre defining Metal Amps: 2203, 5150, Rectifier. The Rest are just variations. End of Story.

Hopefully this is the beginning of a new trend and companies start making more powerful amplifiers.

I don't understand what happened to guitarists. I log on the guitar forums/groups and most people want cheap, light weight, low power, mass produced consumer products. I log on the hifi forums/groups and it's the opposite. Those guys have no problem running amplifiers that weigh hundreds of pounds putting out hundreds or thousands of watts in the living room.

It's still in prototype but I've been following the building of the YDNA Gargantua. 300 watt multi channel amp running a sextet of 6550s. I think the parts and the layout look glorious. I can't tell much from the clips I've heard but I think that's promising for a demo with low volume and single coils. Gives me some hope and I'm a sucker for small businesses and underdogs.

I would include a mark iic+ as well. Nothing else sounds like the mark amps. Such a distinctive sound that I feel is also a part of what made MoP and AJFA sound so groundbreaking. To me it's much more important to the time line of high gain amps than the 5150's

Sounds like Doom Amp

While I think amps circuits are based on variations of those, I think this doesn’t mean much. None of those sound like a Hermansson, wizard, bogner xtc, diezel vh4,or a million other amps. It’s a cool comment from a historical point, but is not an accurate depiction of how amps sound

I'm not sure what it is. Came across the guy building amps on a facebook group and I've been watching that build for about 5 months. Never built an amplifier and I wouldn't try but I think that looks like a quality build to me. I've seen guys like Bruce Egnater say he does excellent work too.

Not many clips out there but that's the most exciting amp I've come across.

Edit... I don't know how to link facebook properly but Andy Lederman on Tube Guitar Amplifiers facebook group has other pics and a clip or two to listen to. Don't know the guy at all but that's the most interesting guitar amplifier I've heard/seen in a long time.

Variations.

Everyone who is anti wattage forgets there's a volume knob. More glass always heavy into the hifi aspect.
I’m not anti wattage. Just don’t like KT88s and 100watts is enough for me. I would be more interested in the 100 watt version.
