Right now just using Mackie pres into my PT Digi Rack 002 - thinking about upgrading to something better. Got a good price for a Focusrite Isa One - any thoughts or other options?

The Isa One is okay, a little plain sounding though. I think you'd be happier with the UA Solo in terms of stand alone single pres go.

There's always the option of getting into API Lunchbox stuff. The pres available are all class acts! Everything from API, Great River, Avedis, BAE, Chandler, LaChapelle, A Designs, Purple, hell the list goes on! Just buy a new module at your comfort.

If the price of the Isa One is hard to pass up you'd still be better off than the stock Digi pres. Keep in mind though you're still going through the stock Digi converters and analog stages. Might be worth checking out a nice converter/pre unit such as an RME. Just putting it out there. But hey, even if sticking with stock Digi, that Isa is an improvement.

I second the API Lunchbox. I've been looking at getting one for years now. Everytime I hear a guitar tone I love, it was recorded with a freaking API mic pre

I've been looking into a new interface for my PC based Sonar 8.5 running Windows 7. The RME stuff is pretty darn expensive. I only need 2 ins, 2 outs and midi. I don't even need mic pres in it as I have an API Lunchbox. Do you have any suggestions as far as great sounding converters with a minimum of features as I mentioned above? Thanks

This is good advice- I thought the Isa's were a little one-dimensional, The UA's are great, as are the API's, but as said, your still going through the same converters, I have a 002 rack, and have figured out my converters suck :aww: :aww:

its a cool pre but id go for a black lion auteur, or a golden age pre73,, crazy good for the cash... i have both available if you need @ my store if you need.

Do you have any advice on audio interfaces for PC with the features I mentioned a couple of posts up? Thanks

hey, off the top of my head id just get a good converter like a rosetta 200 or even a apogee mini me... ahhh crap your pc based, that makes it more diffucult... hmm id say call the guys at black lion audio up and see if they'll mod a mbox pro for you... there stuff is no joke man, i LOVE my signature modded 002, it outperforms HD rigs that i track and mix on...

you can also just get an mbox pro and clock it to something else, let me know if you have any questions , shoot me a pm.

Man, if you were on Mac I'd say Apogee Duet without question! For PC it gets a little more expensive. An Apogee Mini will give you 2 chan AD/DA but's it's around $800 new, yikes! I would check to see if whatever interface you currently have can be modded by Black Lion Audio. I had my Digi 002 done and it was well worth it. Now I run my lunchbox pres into the analog ins on the Digi 002 and it's all good.

I also have a Presonus Digimax that has nice converters and pres. I'd use it over a stock Digi any day.

Definitely an awesome choice. 2 high quality pres and quality AD/DA, can't go wrong. I didn't want to suggest it because it's not cheap. Worth every penny though. I remember the first time I heard that API sound, I knew I had something special!

black lion does not and will not do any mods to m-audio products

I guess that changed a while back. I had them do an 1814 a few years back for a small rig I have. Sounds much better than stock.
