Hey psycho, what is your expert opinion on Fortin and the OP's announcement?
I'd like to know, maybe others as well.
Me personally, I'm thrilled that these modders that have (had to sometimes) moved on to greener pastures and are coming back to a more personalized service.

When they sign deals and give their knowledge to others, they don't have any time to cater to the players. I would rather have them woodshed the shit out of the amps that are mass produced. Maybe someday it will balance out, but I doubt it. I would give him my money in a heartbeat

I have heard regular Cali mods that sound great . How does the Killer Kali++ sound different ?

I'm no expert   , but I think it's great to see Mike offering mods again. He does great work and is very knowledgeable.

As guitar players, we are lucky to have so many different amp modders to choose from. There are a lot: Fortin, Friedman, Bray, Voodoo, Cameron, BFG, FJA, Torres and even Mesa Boogie (yes they will mod an amp for you) ...the list goes on and on. Then we have the Metro Forum, SLO Clone forum, etc with a ton of information to help someone learn. Long gone are the days of only having a few choices of amps or modders.

I've heard the Asian connection from someone in the industry that I trust too about Friedman...and the fact that the amps are in GC and MF all over the country points to it...IMO

You guys are all full of shit. This is just bullshit, all our amp circuit board are populated here. I invite anyone who is in town to come to the factory and see for yourself. We do have our footswitch's made for us in China... That would be 25 boxes of them, meaning multiple footswitch's per box.,2 different footswitch's. We order a lot at a time, I believe it's around 500 per order, that's where you get the 700lbs... Hope this explains it. Come down and I will prove it to anyone.

The Killer Kali++ contains the 3rd gain stage of the Cali but has a 4th gain stage plus more options like mi-shift, feel, etc. The Cali has the two SAT switches which really is not needed with the 4th gain stage. I have Gower modded KK++ with the SAT switches on mine and very rarely use them. It is all about the 4th gain stage with the KK++.

Apologies for the grief. I (and several others) said they have heard things about China, etc. Your partner Rob felt inclined to only single me out (as usual). So I simply found one link and another one was sent to me by someone else. That's it. No agenda. Had Rob not directed his comments to me, I would have left it at a simple forum rumor and not mentioned it again. Glad to see you confirm that 100% of Friedman amps are built in the USA (sans a simple foot switch).

I wouldnt trade my Fortin for anything. That thing is amazing and Mike does rebuild dam near the whole thing if not the whole thing on his mods... In my ears nothing comes close... All though them Diezels come in a close second for the sound I like. If you got the coin every penny spent is worth it if Mike builds it. He truly is a Genius...

I owned a Fortin Bones for a while and that amp was a work of art inside. Some really solid workmanship and I loved that amp and wish I still had it. A bit overkill for the couch warrior I've been for the past couple years though. I'd love to have something modded by him, but that's so redundant for me at this point. Too many amps that do the same thing in my stable right now.

Thanks for the response Metalmaniacs93 . The Cali sounds like pure 80's metal bliss while the all of the Killer Kali++ clips sounds like modern drop tuned chug . Love sound of the Cali but it's not listed on Fortin's site as an available mod .

I think the Jose/Cali are kinda one and the same, but ask Mike to be sure.

I believe the Cali circuit is Mike's take on the Jose mod, so the nomenclature is interchangeable in this sense.

Is this correct, guys?

Its a sad day when one of the most inventive, creative, and brilliant minds in the Guitar Amplification world has to defend what has been plainly stated on his products from the jump to a bunch of faceless internet fucks that want to stir the conspiracy pot. AND to WHAT END? WHATS the point of attacking Friedman? What has he done except make really fucking awesome amps and mods for all of US?

When they say made in the USA , THATS obviously what it is. DID they LIE to steal your money? NO. they are making amps for YOU to play. And here you are looking for a reason to tear them down. Its fucking sad man.

I guarantee you, if they make something in China or Indo or ANYWHERE else, they will label it and LET YOU KNOW. Because you know , someone is gonna want to be detective superstar #1 and go try and find something on the internet.

Sorry to Dave and Rob for once again having to come online and defend yourselves against what you RIGHTLY called. BULLSHIT.

Now can we can we get back to what the thread is REALLY about?
Mike Fortin does incredible shit and is worth his fee. If you question that, you should do it yourself.

LMAO

Tightest amp with tone I've played.

Try and get a ceriatone to do that chug at 1:20

If it HAD been true they wouldn't have been the first. Washburn anyone???

Has anyone here looked inside an old Marshall? Not much to it. I work on cars for a living. I can diagnose a multiplexing can/lan system, tear the inside of the car or engine harness apart, repair the wiring or faulty controller and resemble the car in one day. There's no way in hell it takes more than a few hours to replace a few resistors and add a few components to a simple tube amp. I've done a few mods and was surprised at the simplicity of this old ass technology. We're all being snowed by these modders. They likely do these mods in a couple hours tops, especially if it's one they've performed multiple times.

I've seen old pics of vintage Marshalls being made. A gaggle of women in a sweatshop soldering because sexist men thought that needlepoint was similar to soldering with dexterity etc.

The whole point is not about parts and time. It's all about concepts and design and you are paying for experience. You are paying for someone obsessed with a niche that knows what you need when you talk to him. It's more of a consultation than soldering a few wires.

I have the best amps money can buy, but I still jones for the tightness of a Fortin. I wish I'd never played the bloody thing!
