If you got the chance to play through my G12H30 loaded 1960 cab, i put money on it that you would be converted

I owned one and came to the conclusion 4 g12h30's is too much. They need to be mixed.

The G12H30s I had were very dark. They sounded nice mixed with V30s, though.

They are awesome cabs. I compared one side by side with my Diezel 412 (USA made) and my Bogner ubercab. The Diezel has been sold and I have 2 Mills Afterburner straight cabs on order.

What speakers did you get in yours, Matt?

Both will have v30s/GK100s in an X-Pattern. My favorite speaker combination.

And FWIW, the G12H30's i have are not very dark. I have 4 different 4x12's.. one has 25w Greenbacks, one has 75's, one has G12-65's and the other one has G12H30's.

The G12H30 loaded cab sounds the most balanced sounding out of all 4 different speaker types i own. It has a tight low end, a killer midrange. The Greenback sounds brighter, but has a looser/darker low end when pushed at volume. The 65's sound like a high powered, tighter, clearer Greenback.. and the 75's sound harsh and shrill

Im going to be yanking the 75's out and loading in some V30's very soon, as i dont have a V30 loaded cab right now.. and it would be useful for me to have a variety of speakers to use, when voicing my amp mods.

they are killer cabinets man, the build quality is exceptional, and the baffling design is unique and really works. One of the very very few pieces of gear I've tried that lived up to the hype, and exceeded it. Super tight full lowend, very balanced and resonant, and they project very well.

Those Heritage G12H30's are even brighter than the standard ones (Anniversary models). With the standard ones, you dont need to mix them to get them sounding great. I much prefer either original blackback H30's or the normal anniversary models to the Heritage ones

I also have a Road King 4X12 (slant). What are your opinions on the differences between it and the Mills. I don't necessarily think they do the same thing as you can have the clean on one side of the mesa an the dirty on the other but, I'd like to hear what you think of the tonal differences. Thanks!

I like the Road King. I really do. The open side gives it some character that I really like. It's a very open sounding cab and compared to everything else I've owned prior to the Mills, the Road King was the hands down winner. Big, clear, lots of low end, tight, no farting or break up. It was the first cab I had the I liked both my heads through. Prior to that I like one cab with the Diezel and another cab for my mesa. Just a really great sounding cab. The thing is, the Mills does it all better. And compared to the Mills, the Road King is horribly directional sounding.

Dave Mills didn't starting building these cabs for the metal guys, they were for rock and blues guys, so they still have a warm character to them at mid to low gain and cleans are just as warm and they're fat sounding with just enough sparkle. Then you throw some high gain at the mills and it just eats it up. Now, the Road King does have an advantage if you're running multiple inputs into the amp, since the cab is more like 2 2x12 stuck together, so if you're running a wet/dry setup or a clean/dirty and you want to split the sides up, you're not going to get that out of the Mills.

I was saying on Harmony Central that for what I paid for the Mills (new) vs the Road King (used), the Road King was probably the better value. The Mills, however, is the better cab. It's everything I like about the Road King, but just enough better all around to notice a big difference. Going back to the Road King after playing the Mills is getting harder and harder the longer I own the Mills. No knock on the Road King cab, like I said, the Mills is just better.

could get one of those used yeah, but used stuff like that is fairly hard to find in the uk. instead of the G12H30' in x pattern with the v 30's, i would go with to G12K-100's. loved the sound of those in x pattern. would suit my style more methinks

i have original evm12l speakers as well as the original celestion evm clones.

they are very very loud and super tight. the highs are sharp and it can cut like no ones business.

that being said, i had a 4x12 with em and it was too much. had to mellow it out by mixing em with speakers with more mids.

when marshall first started doing custom zak wylde heads and cabs they commisioned celestion to make an evm12l copy, that is the speaker that i am talking about. I have real evm12l and they sound pretty close.
