Introducing the new Mini-Rig-of-Doom.
I've been trying to find a way to pull off big tone in a small package for 4 or 5 years now and up until now I've always come up short. I tried the combo thing and that was a failure (boxy and weak). Tried the 30w thing and that was a failure (no headroom, sounded like mush). Tried the 2x12 thing and that was alright (good crunch/thump, but really directional and harder to hear than a 4x12). This new set of cabs seems to have it down though.
It's an open back 1x12 stacked on a thiele 1x12. The top provides the detail and spreads the sound while the thiele provides the thump while avoiding the boxy sound of a closed back 1x12. It's no replacement for a 4x12... but it's a useful tool to have in my back pocket.
I'm not sure how well it'll mic up, but it should be good for small venues where there's little to no guitar running through the PA.
