Mod 50 Users Tube Experiences

Hello All:

I am wondering how many of you fellow Mod 50 owners have experimented with different tubes. I am in the process of buying both power and preamp tubes. Currently I am running the stock Sovtek 5881 and 12AX7 tubes, and use the T/D and SL2 modules. Any opinions and experiences are greatly appreciated.

I would *highly* reccomend a search, because this topic has been discussed a lot. And I mean A LOT. :D

But overall, the Sovteks are agreed upon as solid, reliable, dependable, hard-to-kill tubes. But being tweakers, a lot of us like to swap them out and try different flavors.

Some favorites of forum members here:

Sovteks: Solid tone, also great in V2 of every module.

JAN 5751: for low gain to clean modules, cleans up the drive a bit. Great in the VOX, BMAN, DLX, etc.

TungSol Reissue: overall one of the best current production tubes. Great in everything.

Chinese C9 Shuguangs: Great for high gain, nice chewy crunch to them.

Pretty much spot on 100% here.

I personally use the following:

  • JP 5751s in in V2 of the COD and V1 of the following modules -> DLX, COD, VX, BMAN
    Chinese 12ax7s in V1 of the following modules -> EG3/4, Hilligan modded XTC, SL2X.
    Tung Sol 12ax7s in the M4 / Mod50 / Mod100 / RT2/50 chassis tubes and V2 of all modules except the COD and V1 of the following modules -> Twin, EG5
    Svetlana 6550s in the RT2/50 and Mod100
    Tung Sol 6550s in the Mod50
 
My experiences.........put tubes in amp............amp sound good. :m17:
 
Thanks to you for your assistance. I'll try the Tung Sol 5881 and 12AX7 tubes this time.
