Back for The Attack was mostly done with a Randall. I even think it might have been solid state.

Hmm...I thought Tooth and Nail he used a Randall, this is the first I've heard he used them on Back for the Attack?

I'm pretty sure T&N was the only album he used the Randall also...

Bronco is correct!! On T&N he used Randall and on BFTA he has been known to use Caswell modded Marshalls based on the S.I.R. #39 and the Aspen Pittman Purple Plexi? Who really knows though?

Man, I love reading threads like this because they always turn into a "who thinks they know more about modded Marshall crap" pissing contest lol. One guy will be like "mannn I love the Marshall tone on this album", the next guy is like "well actually it's a mixture of ADA and Soldano" and the next guy will be like "well actually I talked to a guy that worked at GC who used to tech for a guy that knew this guy's tech and it was actually a Marshall modded by Johnny whatshisname used on that album" and it keeps going.

My favourite modded Marshall tone would have to be on Pantera's vulgar display of power......... heheheheh

Except in this case, we can look toward Lynch's own past website for the last word. If he's lying, then we'll likely never know the truth.

George Lynch could directly come on here himself and flat out explain his rig on the record just to have someone say "he's totally lying to protect his secrets, I know for a fact he used (amp X) + (pedal Y) on that album because my buddy knew his drum tech".

I saw DOKKEN on the Chains tour in 1982' in a small club.
George was playing outta 3 100 watt Randall heads and 5 fourx12 cabs and nobody knew they wernt tube.

LOUDEST show for the venue ive ever been to, actually way too loud.

I hope I didn't come across that way...I'm certainly not an authority just speculating. :)

When I think of all the modded Marshall on roids tones and whatnot I usually think of Lynch on Back For The Attack. It just seems like that's the tone the modders, builders, hacks, are trying to nail.

Yeah I know, it's probably just that stock Purple Superlead he borrowed from Martini. It's not an SLO on this album.

+1
When I read the title....this was the EXACT album that popped in my mind.
What great tone.

#2 would be CharvelDan's amps.

Not really.

Actually, what kind of modded Marshall Metallica used on Kill'em All and Ride The Lightning? Did they also use Marshall cabs with greenbacks?
