Back for The Attack was mostly done with a Randall. I even think it might have been solid state.

I personally like ULAK and Back for the Attack, the first to Ratt albums, GNR AFD. But it's always interesting to me that the ULAK tone gets attributed to the Casswell Mod when it was really a Rockman.

Fixed..... :)

  I had a Rockman...It never sounded THAT good. Although, I agree it sounds like some is mixed in. I diesn't seem like that long ago when averybody raved about that tone. Every since we had the thread about the rockman on that album, everybody thinks it sucks. That's the internet for ya!!

I know I'm going to get slammed for this but I don't hink his tone on ULAK sounds that much different from BFTA.
My favorite tone of his was on Tooth and Nail and the first Lynch Mob cd. ULAK and BFTA have cool tunes and solos for sure though.

I used to use a Rockman with a pedal in front of it. That's what I hear anytime I listen to ULAK now.

What always surprised me is that Lynch
used a Solid State, Randall RG80 or RG100
to record Tooth & Nail...
I always thought he used a Marshall from
the start.

I know the first Lynch mob disc is an SLO..and when I saw them in '83 he had Randalls on stage..

Saw DOKKEN in 82' on the Chains tour, Lynch played 5 [4x12] cabs, but one was Don's and 4 [100 watt Randall heads.

Nobody knew they wernt tewb amps.

For me , Ride The Lightning. In particular , the opening riff to Trapped Under Ice

That was a stock Marshall JMP bought in Denmark, boosted with an Ibanez Tube Screamer.

James Hetfield said that boosting with a pedal worked well for solos, but 'it puts a shitty coating on rhythm tones...and it was hard to not make it sound like a pedal." He double-tracked it, if not quadruple-tracked it for a thicker sound.

Still, I actually quite like that sound.

I agree. I've always liked the tone on When I Come Around.

Hmm...I thought Tooth and Nail he used a Randall, this is the first I've heard he used them on Back for the Attack?
I'm pretty sure T&N was the only album he used the Randall also...

Tooth and nail was also Marshalls.

I was really into that until the vocals came in.

Grim Reaper see you in hell.......

Vinnie Vincent Invasion

Kane Roberts

Man there are just so many!
The Grim Reaper album was recorded using a Marshall belonging to a friend of mine, it's a metal face 1959 model Superlead, and the mod is really just having the channels bridged internally, a fan and a master volume, it was done in the Boston area, not by some famous LA guy or anything...my friend still has the amp...he's thanked in the album's liner notes.

Vinnie Vincent was four different amps (supposedly) all blended together, but a Marshall was one of the 4...

Maybe not the most operatic vocals but i am real into the message of that tune and that voice fits the mood!
make me wanna go after those cruel fuckers that hurt animals and :gethim:

As for the amps they are MARSHALL JVM 410's with a tube screamer
"For the rhythms on that album I used a Marshall JVM410, which is a more modern amp Marshall does. Marshalls and Tube Screamers, Celestion Vintage 30 speakers. - See more at: http://iheartguitarblog.com/2012/03/int ... g4df1.dpuf"

Even with his lack of ability I always liked the rhythm tone on all the Green Day albums.

Also not mentioned much but the first Extreme album!!! DAMM what a tone Nuno had on that album. I thought his playing got better on porno but not his tone.

Totally cheese, horrid lyrics, stupid overall song, VH ripoff, but of course the guitar playing is killer.

Extreme 1 is stock Marshall channel switcher on one side and a Laney AOR on the other...

Totally agree with you here. That first album sounds so great from a guitar perspective. I love Pornograffiti but the guitar tone drives me nuts. There are times where it sounds great but I think it has more to do with the bass playing along with it. During the outro of Lil Jack Horny you can get the sense that the amp was cranked but on the whole I think the tone is a bit harsh for me.
