Back for the Attack and Ratt Dancing Undercover, same amp.. awesome tones.
Um...not true
It's well documented what George used on that album, and it wasn't Warren's amp (or a Randall for that matter).

Yes indeed they were using four holers.. both of them... for some reason I remember reading somewhere that there was a connection between demartini and aspen pittman on that purple plexi, no?

edit; here is the post from Jhale 2008 on the Seymour Duncan forum.. you may know him

"Actually, I've always heard it was the infamous Purple Plexi previously owned by Aspen Pittman of Groove Tubes (who confirmed this to me, though it's interesting on George's page it says the amp was owned by S.I.R.) that he would occasionally loan out to celebrity clients; the same one Warren Demartini used for 'Lay it Down'...George supposedly pleaded with Aspen to sell it to him, and he wouldn't (read an interview where George said he even considered swapping out the chassis before returning it, but then decided against it)...Aspen did however, sell it to GC several years ago...
I had the honor of teching for Doug Aldrich for a one-off gig last year, and he had a Caswell-modded Plexi that is probably THE best sounding Marshall I have ever heard personally...the thing was INSANE...all the gain of say, a (pre-IV) Mark-series Boogie, but still retained that unmistakable Marshall character..."

Exodus- fabulous disaster

I've got an exact copy of Holt's JCM800's, ;) and there is no better Marshall amp for metal on the planet, Todd Langner was a fucking genius! :worship: 6 gain stages of awesome... How it doesn't scream, squeal, or blow up every time I play it amazes me. Truly one of the best Marshall mods ever. :)

Man, I love reading threads like this because they always turn into a "who thinks they know more about modded Marshall crap" pissing contest lol. One guy will be like "mannn I love the Marshall tone on this album", the next guy is like "well actually it's a mixture of ADA and Soldano" and the next guy will be like "well actually I talked to a guy that worked at GC who used to tech for a guy that knew this guy's tech and it was actually a Marshall modded by Johnny whatshisname used on that album" and it keeps going.

My favourite modded Marshall tone would have to be on Pantera's vulgar display of power......... heheheheh
Except in this case, we can look toward Lynch's own past website for the last word. If he's lying, then we'll likely never know the truth.

George Lynch could directly come on here himself and flat out explain his rig on the record just to have someone say "he's totally lying to protect his secrets, I know for a fact he used (amp X) + (pedal Y) on that album because my buddy knew his drum tech".

Just ask Michael Wagner. He swore on here that they didnt use Rockmans on ULAK, but there were still people saying that they knew the Rockman tone and it was on there. I'm not trying to get under anyone's skin that still believes that. Just sayin. It's kinda hard to argue with the dude who produced/engineered the record.

Listened to it last night. Amazing tone!!!

Green Day imo has one of the best modded marshall tone ever. The Dookie Mod.

Back for The Attack was mostly done with a Randall. I even think it might have been solid state.

I personally like ULAK and Back for the Attack, the first to Ratt albums, GNR AFD. But it's always interesting to me that the ULAK tone gets attributed to the Casswell Mod when it was really a Lee jackson mod.

I get some rip snortin toan outta my DSL

I think the DSL sounds better than the modded Friedman Marshall.
And you can pick up a UK DSL for $600.00 all day long in my neck of the woods.
I think the Friedman shit is way overrated and overpriced.

I paid $600 for that one a UK 2009 with 30 hours on it.

It will hang with my JMP, great amp.

To me, Alice In Chains personified modded Marshall to me. They were THAT BAND that led to me getting I to heavier, and heavier, and heavier music.

Cantrell's tone has a "creaminess" to it; almost a lack-of-attack that I could never figure out, but after finally getting to play a Kahler-equipped Rampage, I realized the Kahler is what made Cantrell's attack softer.

Sykes with a Blue Strip Mesa! :D

Actually, for the longest time, I thought of Sykes as Marshall player, but I learned a few years back that he played my model of amp! After I found out, I started tweaking it and found his exact tone.

I will say that I am a huge Marshall fan (JCM 800 to be exact), and I figured out how to get a very Cantrell-esque, Marshall tone out of my Coli that I can't seem to nail with a normal Mark III.

  I had a Rockman...It never sounded THAT good. Although, I agree it sounds like some is mixed in. I diesn't seem like that long ago when averybody raved about that tone. Every since we had the thread about the rockman on that album, everybody thinks it sucks. That's the internet for ya!!

I know I'm going to get slammed for this but I don't hink his tone on ULAK sounds that much different from BFTA.

Kill 'em All. That tone is 'Fuck You' in amp form.

I don't know if AFD counts (as an album) as modded marshall tone because Izzy didn't use a marshall. General consensus is that he used a Boogie.

(Dis)Honorable mentions: Mayhem-De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas (Euronymous used an Arion Metal Master boosted with an OD for his tone but I've heard his JMP head was modified at some point). I love his tone and playing, it's a shame he was stabbed so many, many times.
