DiMartini and Lynch come to mind when I think modded Marshall tone. Only they were using Soldanos arms Plexis together to get their tones on my favorite albums. So go figure.

Green Day imo has one of the best modded marshall tone ever. The Dookie Mod.

The great thing about that sound is three things- tight percussive thud in the lower bass, bell-clanging central midrange, and the treble biting edge. I think multiple mic'ing techniques might be a part of it.

a personal favorite, amazing that someone said it was a Marshall JCM and stacked OD pedals of some sort.

I've got an exact copy of Holt's JCM800's, ;) and there is no better Marshall amp for metal on the planet, Todd Langner was a fucking genius! :worship: 6 gain stages of awesome... How it doesn't scream, squeal, or blow up every time I play it amazes me. Truly one of the best Marshall mods ever. :)

Can anyone duplicate and build these now? I think someone mentioned Langner no longer does amps or something.

One of the meanest Modded Marshall IMO
Was Shotgun Messiah his Amps sounded like they were ready to blow up
Akira from Loudness too

Cantrell! So much goodness throughout the years, it's just a catalogue of killer tones!

I bought some albums based on this thread. The Shotgun Messiah tune Jeff Hilligan mentioned is killer.

I'm going to go a bit against the grain here. After buying John Sykes Bad Boy Live CD, I have to say that I find his tone thin and scratchy on that. It's all subjective, but there are other Sykes tones I prefer.

Agree with you about Sykes - Checkout Thin Lizzy - One Night Only - It's from the same era 99/00 and same rig, John is on the right, Scott on the left, his tone is stellar.
I think I read on here, John wasn't using his favourite cabs (25w) on Bad Boy Live and had to use rentals which were 75's
