Is the VHT cab front loaded Chris?
If it is... I think it's definitely worth trying a rear loaded one like an old Marshall or Bogner.

Kw

I agree 100%. I use a Bogner 4x12, and I know that the front loaded VHT cabs sound different. Wanna Trade?

Also, try some drastic tone control settings. Once you get that Treble Volume up around 7, try bringing the treble tone knob down. Hell, I've run it with the treble tone knob all the way off. I've set it on 5, and ran the Hi Mid off. That Low Mid brings in a lot of sizzle when the amp is distorting, so don't think that all the high end will be gone if you turn down the treble and hi mid knobs. For something a little different, try running all knobs on 10, except for Bass on 4, and the Treble Volume off. Great, thick Blues / Rock tone there. Gotta keep experimenting. G12H30's, Bro!

What he said... The High Mid is effectively a presence control. I can see where with some guitars or cabs the amp could get a bit ice picky with too much presence or Treble tone knob. When I had a stock PeaceMaker and Mojave 4x12, It sounded great with everything cranked to 10 except the treble volume... some days though I would bring down the presence or treble depending on how my ears were feeling it that day...

I'll just say this...when I owned my Mojave 4x12 anything I put through it sounded great. Plus it looks great as well. Sadly I'm an anal ass in that if I have a certain brand head I want the same brand of cab...stupid I know but it completes me....lol. BTW/ I only paid like 350 for my Mojave...guy didn't know what he had so I coudn't pass it up. Ran my QR through it...amazing. Lost that stuff in a fire and when I replaced my QR I got the splawn cab to go with it. Wish you could try it with that cab.

Yup, I got an opinion. You musy try an LPB 2 or a Duncan PU Booster, or something equivalent, behind a good OD or distortion. When I needed versatility out of that amp, I would run each volume around 3. When you lay into it set like that, it breaks up a little but in a great way. But, it's nice a clean when you lay back. Anyway, I used the OCD for a moderate/heavy OD (all knobs set to 10 o'clock in the HP setting) using the volume knob on the guit-fiddle to adjust the amount of gain. I ran the PU booster BEHIND the OCD and set it pretty high. Sometimes maxed. Since it was behind it, I didn't get much of a volume boost, but I got an incredible gain boost. I mean, Higain. Then I just backed down the volume knob on the guitar if I needed less. It's not the quietest of set ups, but it works!

IMO, if you value the pure, unadulterated quality of that amp, be careful which pedals you place in front of it. Some will not respect those elusive qualities.

And Chris, It is a different beast on stage in the mix of things. You will be surprised....

Thanks Mark. Ya know, I'm also considering the fact that it's my speaker cab... I have two VHT Deliverance 4x12" cabs that sound like heaven with the VHT amps. But now I'm wondering if they may be a little bright for this Peacemaker. Urgh... I'd hate to sell one of them and pick up a Mojave 4x12" only to find out that the amp won't work for me. Know what I'm saying?

I wish I could try a Mojave 4x12" before I bought one... My guess is that it would tame alot of the highs that are hurting my ears right now.

I could sell a D412 and order a new Mojave 4x12", but it's a catch 22 thing here. I may not want the Mojave 4x12" if I determine the Peacemaker isn't going to be around for a while, but I can't really make a good judgement on the Peacemaker with the cabs I have now. lol... Not sure what to do.

In the past, I've found G12H30s a little too midrangey for me. Heck, I dunno...
True if the amp doesn't work out but I think you'd still like the cab. My favorite speaker combo in the Mojave was 2GB's and 2GH30's...I had pulled 2 of the GB's out of my old Marshall cab and used that for awhile...loved it. Funny enough, the day I lost my gear in the fire I had pulled the GB's back out and the only time I ever left my amp at our rehearsal space it burned...go figure.

I'd be interested in hearing how the Peacemaker sounds through a stock 1960B with 75's. Oddly enough I used to hate the stock marshall cabs w/75's but running my JVM through them I'm loving it. Good luck with the Peacemaker. BTW/ the GC here in Nashville said they should have the VHT SigX in very soon so if you put up one of the cabs I might be interested...I'm either gonna give that a shot or maybe a 5150 III...the more I play it the more I like it.

Yeah, my insurance company really worked with me...i was suprised. I pretty much replaced everything I lost and then some. I was lucky that my JSX and a 5150 4x12 was at my house...but I lost 2 4x12's, Splawn QR, 10 space rack w/ GCX etc..., pedal board w/ everything. It was a blow for awhile.

I've got the JVM now w/ 1960A stock. The JSX and 5150 4x12, a Splawn 4x12 w/ GB's and GH30s and my old Marshall 4x12 w/ GB's that I've had since I started playing...got all my rack stuff replaced. I was lucky.

I'm looking to get one more rig and call it a day...actually I'm gasless...been that way since the JVM, plus I love my JSX. Really been hitting the 5150III lately and wanted another VHT since I sold my UL years ago...SIGX has me jonesing but not in gas way...just to have really.

Damn Chris, if your ever thinking of coming close to Cleveland, let me know. I'm still interested in trading my Bogner 4x12 for a Deliverance cab.
I just dont want the pain and cost of shipping cabs.

Hope that works for you(tube change)
You know I sent a VHT FB cab down to Fla.
and got raped(without the kiss) on shipping because the box was 2 inches bigger per side of the cab and was in UPS's "oversized" rules.
That was a year ago..and cost me $125.00
But,it got there without a scratch..LOL

I think I may experiment with running the Peacemaker clean and using pedals for everything. Not sure how that will work out, but that's something I've wanted to try forever. If it sounds good, it would make a nice clean easy setup. Thinking about doing something like this:

- MI Audio Crunch Box (distortion)
- MI Audio Blue Boy Deluxe (OD/boost)
- RT Plank Cranker (OD/volume boost)
- BYOC Script Phaser
- Line 6 Tonecore Delay

That would sure be an easy setup... I'd still use the HotPlate with the Peacemaker to get the volume up a bit, but still run it fairly clean.

I dunno... I may be talking out of my ass here. I have everything above except for the Crunchbox. I had one before and remember it sounding great. Also considering a Tonebone Classic, but it's pretty big for the board.

That's how I run my Plexi. Clean but starting to break up, then I use a Fulltone OCD then have a BB, TS-9, or FDII in front of it that I can use to make it scream. Since the PM is pretty similar to a Super Lead, I bet it would sound great like that too. A decent delay set up more like an echo sounds better than most of the reverb pedals I've tried using it with that set up.
