I'm needing a pair of monitoring headphones to use with a 2notes torpedo live for silent practicing. What are you guys using? I started in the $150-200 range and not locked in that budget if there are significantly better choices in the next price bracket. Comfort will be a big consideration as i usually practice for more than an hour daily. Ive watched a bunch of review vids, but still undecided on brand, quality and comfort.

So what are you guys wearing and why? Thanks in advance!

For monitoring I use the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x. Comfortable and a good value at $150.

This. They ARE really comfortable and decently cheap, but for mixing they’re bass heavy as fuck, just keep it in mind.

Shure SHR-840 Pro for me. Great headphones for recording and monitoring.

Thanks guys, think i'm getting something in the audio-technica ATH line.

I've heard those are really nice, too (even if they are bass heavy, I think I've been successful learning how to compensate for that with my Beyers). I was thinking of picking up a pair of A-T ATH-M70x sometime soon (My Beyers have seen better days at this point). Please let us know what you get and what you think of them!

I picked up Audio-Technica ATHR70x Open Studio Headphones. Just used ‘em and took them off after an hour of playing for the first time. Comfortable as all hell. Ears werent fatigued, ear cushion soft and comfortable. Ears didnt sweat. Clamp pressure was comfortable, head phones didnt need adjustment once. Head doesnt feel like ive been wearing headphones for an hour. Happy with this purchase.

Any of you guys use these for double duty and mix with them? I believe open back is better for mixes and monitoring headphones are more closed back?

Yup open back for mixes, I use Sennheiser HD 600's which I use for monitoring too, but only because I mainly do direct recording. If I were mic'ing would use something closed back for sure.
