He designed it, so I am sure he would say that. I agree with you though - I don't see how and I think he is full of shit as a Christmas turkey )a smart turkey though) and it just shows Marshall's commitment to be the next Line 6. Then again, there is the Axe-FX Pure PC audio that can supposedly turn 1's and 0's into pure analog tone too.

The only positive I can see is that the amp has a choke. Other than that, it looks like a DSL with the preamp tubes mounted to the PCB, and the same lay-down transformers.

I wonder how much more money it would cost Marshall (and then us) for them to use the 2203 reissue chasis and electronics? I'm sure Marshall will be charging a fortune for the AFD anyway. Why not do it right?

I just got back from seeing Slash and I was not impressed with the new amps. It sounded like a stock JMP master volume with a distortion pedal in the front. Perhaps the eq was off through the mains, but if that is how the production amps will sound, my old JVM was better IMHO. The concert was great otherwise. If Slash stays teamed up with Miles, the will be playing arenas next year.

Myles will help Slash tremendously....and the other way around. Myles has one of the best voices around and a good entertainer. Slash will need to find his niche though to feed on the current popularity he's got. He's good people though, done well, kept his shit together and is respected in the industry.

As for the new amp I don't know what the hell Marshall was thinking. I imagine Slash can't wait to get it on the market so he can get it out of the rack. Endorsement can have its downsides.

I did Tons & Tons of drugs/alcohol in the 80's too, but can remember what amps i played, but i'm not trying to endorse a product either, the whole AFD thing is marketing/sales by Marshall & Saul to sell amps, one look at the final product makes that clear.

Hi, without going into personal disqualifications, the answer is very easy, as the AFD amp and the #34 Slash's fav are 90% the same amp It simply needs to switch a gain stage and a couple of other things and there you are, quite simple and effective. In fact I can 100% assure you that the AFD100 in #34 mode is the same amp as Slash has been playing.

The AFD100 never pretended to be a replica of the original amp, just an amp that has that tone and for those purposes we have had Slash working with us. If we had made a "true" replica it would have retailed form much more than it is now and one of the objectives was to make this amp affordable, but that doesn't mean cheap parts, or made overseas. It is made in the UK and all the parts are the same as we would be using in handwired amps.

There is nothing digital in the signal chain either, no 1s or 0s touching the signal, the only 1s an 0s are for the autobiasing and the footswitch.

The transformers are the SAME as in the JCM800, just horizontally mounted instead of vertical.

Dudes, I saw Slash + Myles in Milwaukee and the entire show was absolutely and incredibly crushing. The dude simply played his @#!! off all night long. At this point - he could easily 'mail it in' but that is not the case at all. I should add - I am not a super-fan and mostly listen to artsy/loud indie music but I have sooooooooo much respect for Slash (even more after seeing this show). The band was excellent also and all in all the night was a total blast. The new songs (at least live) match or better a lot of the things he has done over the years (in my opinion).

That said - I must add that he sounded awesome. The amp was ballsy and warm and throaty and pretty much exactly what you would want from a modded Marshall. That said, I'll still be playing my slightly modded JVM with improved tubes until it drops dead - and like others have said - any other decent sounding Marshall should do the trick for that type of hard rock tone(for us Marshall players).

Still - this is an amp to watch for! I (for one) can't wait to fire one up and see how it sounds! I like the features and I can honestly say that live I thought it sounded exactly like you'd want Slash to sound.

When you say the transformers are the same as 800 trannies, does that mean they are different than the laydown DSL ones that were/are smaller and lighter-and thinner sounding?

yes, we don't use DSL type transformers in new designs. The JCM2000s were the last amps using those.

It's hard to diss or knock what you've never heard or played .... The jvm has alot going on inside and I think that is a great sounding marshall...is it as organic as a plexi or jmp or 800 ? NO.... but for a bone stock out of the box Marshall!!!!!!

To the ordinary every day Joe who doesnt know about Mods and ect the Jvm is pretty damn good.... and i bet this amp will be cool if santiago had his hands on the project....
