Damn lots of pickups I haven't even heard of. Great! Thanks for all the input.
After research and a winner for neck, if it's still muddy, I'm definitely going with a hum sized P90. I'm like you Giga. Every neck humbucker I've had has been a bit muddy. PAF Classics weren't that bad but rest was all mud even on low gain settings.
You'd be best to look at Motor City Pickups. Wade at MCP probably is making the best passive pickups on the market. Ty Tabor's guitars that he is using on the road are all made w/ MCP's. I've tried 3 different Humbucker sets from him and a set of vintage style single coils, and there's not a pickup that is passive that sounds better. I've tried TONS of pickups and I would say for lower gain pickups get a set of Torques, or if you want a higher gain pickup that is super articulate get a set of Afwayus. They are by far the most articulate pickups I've ever used, and really super chimey and sparkly on clean tones. The Afwayus are what Ty Tabor is using in his guitars. I have them in a Heritage (the guitar maker...from Kalamazoo, MI) LP (1.5" thick instead of 2" thick body). They sound amazing!!!
Here is a set of clips I did with them with my Egnater M4 / VHT 2/90/2 w/ 6550s rig. There is some sloppy playing here and there.
