Most disappointing amp

Fizz has more to do with the sensitivity of the individual than the gear.
Just like some people are more sensitive to light or smells.
That and 90% of perception is past experience.

I have a pair of Vintage 30 that is way brighter than the rest. It's like having a strobe light in your face. Takes cuts in the mix to a whole other level.
have to agree on speakers. They can make or break amps, and once you have something you're used to, it can work with a LOT of amps.

Most disappointing - I had a Zinky Mofo that Bruce put a loop in. Sounded great, but there was a slight buzz/humm I didn't dig. Sent it back to him came back fucked. No buzz but no life anymore.
So, after dumping it bought the Supro "new version" of it.
Oscillating at high volume and not even close to the tone. Returned it, chapter closed.

I'm embarrassed to say, I can have fun on just about anything these days if it makes noise. I haven't been disappointed in years unfortunately, so my amp room looks like an episode of Hoarders.
sounds a little like the Tom Morello approach... take a piece of gear and create what you do with that, instead of trying to make a piece of gear something it's not.

I wish I was that enlightened or talented, lol. Thanks for even the comparison though! I think I've just grown way less picky as I get older, and maybe easier to coax stuff out of gear with experience.

I can play almost any amp and enjoy it, but to keep it, it has to be damn near flawless
not gonna argue there. I think I need to take that to heart, because I'm running out of space! I'm used to looking for something I don't like. I definitely need to be more selective. I've already started plans to expand my guitar room into my dining room. Heck, I'm single, my kids just visit and stay over occasionally. I really only need like a breakfast nook to eat. :p

It's getting ridiculous though. I don't want to be 80 and trying to sell a house full of amps and guitars. My kids are both involved in music programs, but have no interest in guitar. They have no idea what Smaug has sitting in that little guitar room, lol.

Engl e606 for me. Not sure if special edition did anything better.

To be fair. If I had reasonable expectations and compared just to other lunchboxes it was a win.

But for whatever reason I was hyped up for a bigger sound. Something 50+watt and defying the transformer/el84 tubes.

And not amps per say. But preamp pedals. Maybe others are better. But friedman ir in particular. Maybe again unreasonable expectations. And really like/use friedman be od pedal. Idk.

I was only comparing the thought process, not the talent... 😂😂😂😁🍻

You can make them tight af with a ts9 and gate . Herbert is great
Yeah, I tried clean boost and EQ pedal. But, still didn't like for it. I wanted to like Herbert. Because, that was one of my dream amp. Not my type of an amp in the end.

That mid switch on and stuck in middle with pregain lower while master was high rrwslly tightens it up .

one of my fav settings. If you want to sound like a produced album in the room, it's hard to beat IMO.
Ya . It sounds like a recorded tone that’s been processed . Which I want sometimes

it's a great sounding amp, there isn't much to dislike about Diezel. I think the only amp I was a bit underwhelmed with, was a Fokker, but it wasn't really aimed at what I play either.

Ya it’s a diffent one

Yes I did the same thing by turning the treble all the way down. I got it to it's most usable form possible to my ears, but after weeks of playing that amp, then plugging back into any other amp I have, the difference was night and day and realized those Kettner amps just can't be saved. It's possible speaker swap might help it but then might fuck myself over on other amps' tones that I have dialed in already.
YEP. I thought it was something about me or my setup. I went through several different speakers and wish I still had several of those on hand in a way but hey that's the way she goes! I was blessed enough in the end that, after hearing my story, Sweetwater actually took the amp back (Good ol' Chuck!) and gave me full store credit well after the warranty period expired. (Yes the amp went back and forth for that long for multiple repairs, etc). That's when I took the leap on the Rivera and got the amp that really is perfect for me in so many ways.

Makes me feel good to know it definitely wasn't just me.

I’ve played a lot of shit over the years. The only amps to stay are ones I’ve built or tuned. The other is a blue stripe III++ Coliseum.

Its kind of funny, but I have noticed that I have built, modified, or fixed almost every piece of gear I own. From modding or building tube amps, to tons of pedals, to fret levels on guitars. I have very few pieces of gear I haven't touched in some way.
