Most gain'd out plexi mod?

Well I have owned most of the big names in modded marshalls and if u want an amp mod that just adds to the plexi tone and still fully retains the marshall british sound and vibe then David bray is tops and Rockstah's mod 5 still sounds and is just 100% cranked ripping marshall and killer. If you want killer high gain for metal then there are a few named above that do that in spades. A big thing for me is that the amp still has what I love about a marshall but just more of it, and that it retains the signature marshall characteristics, and also that the mods dont turn it into a noisy box of shit. Try to find a modder that does the mods himself and takes pride in his work and word and who talks to you about what it is you want and your rig and style music etc, and be sure to discuss price and a time period. And as said above superleads and older 800's are basically the same amp parts wise and the mods are usually universal for them as they use same boards and transformers, most pots, etc, but with minor changes.

I'm partial to the video below ;) , although I know the Fortin and JFA stuff sounds killer as well.

Just a few simple part changes... no need for any added tubes :D

That sounds really good!

I have a master volume modded in my '78 Super Lead ............I can get alot of gain with this mod. :D

At what level of extra gain for plexi makes it no longer a plexi?

Who/What mod is that, psychodave?

Cameron Aldrich/Norum mod.
 Not simple. One of the hardest mods to do.

Actually it's very easy to do. Obviously coming up with it originally might have been tricky but doing the mod is very easy. You don't even need to add a tube, but it is very dependent on where you place all the components, it will not sound right otherwise. 4 gain stages out of 2 tubes, some obvious voicing changes, plate follower, bass boost, et etc

Mike Fortin can make you one that will make you pee on yourself, and not even notice

No offense to Martin's work but bringing that to the same dominating shoot-out as a Hulk type mod is like bringing a thimble to a John Holmes look-a-like contest.

I don't think the OP is after anything "Hulk-ish" in nature.

You're probably right but it fits the bill per his description of: plexi mod (check), balls to the wall (fucking A check), doesn't sound like an 800 (check). :D

Sounded terrific to me. Cleaned up amazingly well. None of my modded amps clean up that nicely.

I think in order for anyone to answer you correctly you need to give a better description on what it is that you want the amp to do or what you are looking for. For example.

Do you want a Mondo gained out amp or do you essentially want a PLEXI that gets down right nasty/balls out with a ton of sustain?

With that said, Once you start adding cascading gain stages it will no longer be a PLEXI In my humble opinion.

I was thinking a super, gained out PLEXI, that still has all the DYNAMICS of a PLEXI just with a crap ton of gain. I actually kind of like the video psychodave posted.

Well Dave's vid you can use a shit ton of different donor amps to get that tone, not just marshall imo. Dave's vid does rip though

Or just buy a Boogie   :D

Sorry--I have to throw my vote in for the Chupacabra 50. Unbelievable. Clips as soon as time allows...

Interesting request but not sure it is entirely possible without a change of some sort to the preamp? Most of the top modders are going to wire in a master volume/ preamp volume/ cascade alla 800 and go from there so really, doesn't it become more of an 800? The best way to squeeze more gain out of a plexi would be a bypass cap here or there, diff resistor values without altering the preamp in any way. That said, you prob wouldn't get near the levels of gain you want. I suppose the "one wire mod" and it's variants could keep you in the ball park you want to be in but for the most part, I think a boost would probably be best. YJM 308 baby... preferably modded, let's you feel like you've added a tube! Just works great with the MArshall circuit as long as you don't crank the mids.

From what I understand allot of guys can do a good mod but getting the lowend right is a big challenge. Not sure why.
