What do those Asphalt sets measure out to? Kinda sounds like they might be in the same range as BKP Nailbombs?

Asphalt's absolutely kill. I was the first person to get the Asphalts as they came from a custom wind I ask for after ordering and playing some custom hots, I do have the emails to back this up. I tried to get him to name them "Cory O'Bryant signature sets" but couldn't convince him. I me what they basically are is custom set with A5 mags and a under wound neck pickup to get better clean tones. I will not order pickups from anyone else anymore. He is a standup guy that has under promised over delivered on every one of his builds for me, and his prices are unbelievable.
I got my bridge Asphalt on Friday (delivered in less than 1 1/2 weeks after I ordered it). Just wired it up and I freaking love this pickup in my LP Classic. It sounds huge!

Laura, did you put a meter on that Asphalt before you popped it in?

Nope but my paper work says it is 16.5K.

I don't know how it compares to the Nailbomb. I had one in my Juggernaut and I liked it ok but did not love it. I have a BG Hellabucker in that guitar now and dig it. I am doing some A/B'ing between my LP clone with a maple neck and an Aldrich in the bridge and my LP Classic with the Asphalt. Both are awesome but something about this Asphalt just sounds a bit bigger and "badder" to my ears. Really diggin' it!

Cool thanks. The Asphalts sound like a lot of bang for the buck. I'm going to give Manilus a shot.

I'm currently looking for a bridge humbucker for an American standard strat that will fatten/ darken the guitar a bit. High output.
Is this an HSS strat? Are you wanting the pickup output to somewhat balanced? What's in the neck and/or middle?

Actually it was always HH but now Im thinking of going HSS with it for a classic look. i usually go for output that is balanced.

I have a HSS strat. It depends on what you're going for...vintage or modern or whatever. I was looking for more vintage and versatile, so lower output for me. I used to have a 2nd Degree Black Belt and Fender Custom Shop 54s. Now I have a Nasty Nasty and a set of MCP's Woodwards for the singles.

These are lower output pickups, but have a great clarity. The difference in the CS 54s and Woodwards are not great, but I do favor the Woodwards slightly. Just a bit more clarity and clean up a hair better, but I won't complain about the CS 54s. Nice noisefull pickups. You can get a set of CS for $200, or two Woodwards for $240. The Woodwards edge the 54s by a bit, so if you're looking to save cash, get the 54s. If you're looking to maximize the tone, spring for the Woodwards. I like them a lot.

The 2nd DBB was my favorite pickup for a long time. I tried the MCP Angel Dust and put the 2ndDBB back in. The 2ndDBB is just a damn nice pickup. Very organic sounding. After talking to Wade a bit, I decided to drop the coin on a Nasty Nasty. At first, I wasn't sure but now I'm sold. The NN is similar to the 2ndDBB. Imagine the EQ just slightly shifted upwards. A little more aggressive sounding and the bottom end a bit tighter. It has a faster response, too. The one downside is the top end looses some of the great 3D sound from the 2ndDBB. The NN still retains a lot of the organic tone as the 2ndDBB.

I can't speak of the higher output pickups from Wade, but the lower output stuff is top notch. If you're looking for versatility and a great organic, clear tone, go for a some CS 54s or MCP Woodwards, and a MCP 2ndDBB or NN. If you're looking for more modern or higher output, I can't really speak of.

wow thanks for the in depth details!

i grabbed a smits chainsaw off of ebay for $44, a buddy has one and we really like it so im going to try that one first, ill look into the MCP single coils, its my first time shopping for them.
