I couldn't say enough good things about Wade or his pickups, the Detroiters are some of my favs hands down, they will not disappoint!!!!

Are they pretty versatile? I like going from bluesy ZZ Top to Motorhead maybe even some early Metallica/Slayer type tones.

I don't have Detroiters, but I do have the Second Degree Black Belts and they are really versatile from blues to hard rock, so I imagine with them being a bit hotter, you should be good to go with these. I absolutely love my set. I don't think you'll be sorry. Even if they aren't for you, you'll be able to move them quickly and not lose much $$. Go for it man.

I know this isn't about MCP pickups but I'm in a band that covers that same list of music and I have an SG with a WB Firewater set and it absolutely stunning how great it handles that stuff.

I wouldn't go for the WBs unless you can get them used somewhere. Do a topic search on them and you'll see how many people have already been ripped off by the dude :gethim: .
I did get both sets that I have used.I have heard the stories as well.My intention was not to downplay MCP.I have a 2nd Degree BB in my Charvel and I love it.

Yes, they are very versatile. I was actually really surprised how much ground I could cover when I installed them, plus mine came with 4 conductor wiring so I can split them into single coils. I think you could get by doing Metallica tones with them but you'd be stretching their capabilities a little. They would handle all the other stuff with ease though.

This is true, they sell like hot cakes around these parts

If you ever decide to sell them let me know, I want to try them out but I don't want to take the risk of getting screwed

Both MCPs I have (Afwayu, Solution) kick ass. Buy with confidence.

I was just trying to get an idea of the range of these pickups. This guitar will be used for the styles in my OP..just curious how far past that I could push 'em. :D I don't play much thrash anymore anyway and I have another guitar that's already set-up for the heavier stuff.

Yes they will!!

I just recently got a Detroiter and I really, really like it.
I have tried different models from quite a few different boutique winders. Many of them offer great products....you just have to find the flavor you like.

For me, I wanted something that would give me a vintage hot type output, which to me should hit the preamp a bit and add a little heat to it. I wanted the pickup to have an aggressive mid and high end bite so it would really crunch nicely. The Detroiter does it in spades. I would not consider this a smooth pickup. Wade used the word choppy to describe it and I would agree with that. Its got great clarity, sustain and grind to it with a nice tight and punchy low end....growling mid and top end bite. The output is just right for me. How far you can push it may depend on the amp you are using, but it can definitely do clean to most rock.
If you want something even thicker, slightly smoother and with a really great growl and awesome complex overtones then check out the Guitarforce RebelFire. It is my favorite humbucker, with the Detroiter coming in a close second. I like the aggressive edge of the Detroiter, but the RebelFires extra thickness and really special dynamic mojo it has going on makes it the winner for me.

My goodness, if this thread keeps up with all the positive reviews I may have to finally give up on my old Dimarzios.
They've served me well since about 1975, maybe it's time to try somethin' new.
I don't get GAS very often, thanks guys :D

you should def give wades pickups a shot. if you call him he will help you choose the best from his line for your rig/guitar/needs.

i have the entire extreme line, the nuke, solution and hell baby lately i have been wanting to try some lower output pickups, hmmm maybe the Detroiter?

Thanks for that.
I'm fighting the urge, but I may just have to give in.
Ain't had GAS for a long time, so this is kinda new for me, and it almost hurts :D

.

I read elsewhere on the Net the Detroiter described as being 10% P90 due to the snarl and growl these pups have. I like me some P90 vibe.

Oh how I wish I could say these words..
Well just be glad you can't, otherwise you'd be playing the same guitar for the past 30 years.
Mind you my old Japanese guitar is as fast as any I've evar played, 'cept maybe a LPC Black Beauty that was almost as old as me, but worth a lot more ;)

I haven't tried the Detroiter but the majority of the MCP reviews are fantastic. I do have a rebelfire and it's an awesome pickup. Several folks have compared it to the Godwood and I can't disagree. I just sold a set of firewaters and they are awesome as well but a tad more modern sounding than the rebelfire. The rebelfire is like vintage on steroids and sounds BIG without being super hot. It's output is at around 10k. It will do everything you need...

Should I get The Detroiter or Angel Dust for my LP? Next question what neck p'up would work? Playing through Marshall 1987 and Bogner Shiva. Usually play Blizzard of Oz, Diary of a Madman, Appetite for Destruction, Defenders of the Faith, not great but I am getting better.
