Love the Detroiter in my SG. Didn't like the 2nd Degree Black belts as much in a Les Paul.
My last few pickups have come from @scottosan, and they're every bit as good as the Detroiter, as well as other high end pups I have. Give him a shout. You'll be glad you did.
Agreed, Scott’s pickups are excellent and as good as anything out there.

I try not to plug as I’m the new guy on the block. I sell pretty cheap to rig-talk members @ just a little over cost being $50 and usually a 2 week turnaround. I basically have 3 bridge models. All work well in bolt on and neck guitars

Roxy 17k short rough cast A5 similar to JB output with more clarity and less mid hump.

Sunset Strip 14.4K short rough cast A5. Good middle of the road. Not too hot. Not too vintage. Very balanced and articulate.

Wicked 8. 13.8k A8, similar specs to his Mr. Scary pickup. Hits the front of your amp really hard with a wall of mids.

I had a Suhr Aldrich in the Neck and a Afwayu in the bridge on a Custom Shop LP, and always felt the Afwayu was colder, more modern and hot, and just lacked the vibe of a LP. And they were horribly mismatched. Put a Suhr Aldrich bridge in to match, and haven’t looked back. Perfect mix of modern high gain and PAF warmth. I guess kind of like how Doug sounds!

I generally don‘t like lower output pickups. LP purists may say the Aldrich’s are very hot but to me they are a nice pushed PAF and still have that wooly sound.

MC makes great pickups but the Afwayu seems to be really voiced modern and shifted the LP character sound too much. I feel like the Afwayu would be good in something not a LP, like a Jackson/Ibanez HH guitar or something. And I like a lot of modern metal (I guess if you consider Swedish melodic death metal and the 2010’s progressive metal thing ‘modern‘ now).

For comparative context, have played a Custom Custom and Jazz or P90s in a LP, Charvel with a Super D, and a few guitars with D-Sonic and Air Norton. Also had a PAF Pro in a bridge of a basswood strat that I quite miss.

Which one would you say is best for old school Van Halen tones? Sunset Strip? You got me interested man!

Spec wise, the Sunset would be close to the Franky specs. As for the 78 spec, haven’t been focused on this mainly due to the fact that it’s in the hot PAF spec where other hand winders have that covered. The Sunset was actually born out of speculation that the EVH pickup that was rewound from Eddie’s original PAF would have likely had a short A5 magnet, not the more common A2 that everyone uses. Eddie’s PAF was reported to have come from a 1961 Gibson ES335. Unlike early PAFs that used an assortment of magnet types, by 1961, Gibson had standardized the used of a shorter A5 magnet. The short A5 and standard A5s sound different. It’s not quite as harsh and has warmer mids. To my ears, the A2 has a soft lowend and buttery top. That isn’t what I hear with early VH. So, not only did I decide to do a VH spec with the short A5, I liked it better that using the in the same pickup as well as comparing to another winders VH spec with an A2. Any pickup in the 14k is a great middle of the road pickup in terms of output and frequency response. It’s a spec that’s been used by countless winders because of this. I always recommend it to people that either have a diverse playing style and amp section or to people that use modelers because it just plays well with most styles and gear.

Do you provide F-Spaced?

I’ve got a Detroiter in the bridge of my LP R7 and it’s amazing. Thinking about a 2nd black belt set for another guitar

Can u do double cream?
Yes and Yes. Larry Dimarzio can suck it.

I cannot legally sell a double cream humbucker. You can purchase all of the individual parts required to build a humbucker (through me) and I can provide assembly of your parts. **wink wink*. The trademark pertains to sales and marketing. In the case of double cream, I’m simply assembling your parts ;)

Anything Ceramic in the future along the lines of the 500T or the PRS Tremonti pup?

Not at the moment. I could certainly put a ceramic pickup in any of my pickups, I just haven’t focused on any of the Gibson or PRS stuff

I love the Afwayu, it is my favorite pick up. Great tightness and thump on the low end without being too dry and wonderful sustain, bit and sparkle for lead tones. From the styles you listed and amps you play, some of which I have too, I don't think you could go wrong with one. That being said, finding one used may be a bit hard, but keep your eyes open and I would even put something up in classifieds that your looking for one. I did have Wade make me a custom overwound Afwayu set and it also took around 3 months.

What would you say is the Difference between an Overwound one & a Regular Afwayu?

One is overwound and one is regular, thats the difference... :)

I have 4 guitars with Afwayu in the bridge. I don't have any that are specifically "overwound" but I do have one that is modified in that it has a ceramic magnet vs. the standard alnico V. The ceramic seems to have more sizzle than the alnico and while output is relatively in line between the two versions, the ceramic just sounds a touch more saturated with that sizzle and perhaps slightly less bass vs. the alnico. It is almost like the ceramic is the "metal" version and the alnico is the "hard rock / prog metal" version.

Great, now I want a ceramic Afwayu! :p
