Motor City Pickups- Detroiter

Hey all! It's my understanding that alot of you have experience with Motorcity pickups and I had a couple of questions.

1) I have a DiMarzio Super Distortion in the bridge of my LP (the guitar I want to change pups in)..how do the Detroiters compare? I'm not looking to replicate the SD, just curious how it the same/different.

2) I play anything from ZZ Top and Mountain to classic KISS, Maiden, Priest and Motorhead. I had e-mailed Wade about the type of tones I was after and he recommended the Detroiters. Does anyone agree with that assessment or maybe can make another recommendation?

3) What does the Detroit Gasoline finish look like? I've been over to his MySpace site which has alot of pics, but alot of them aren't labeled.

Just got a pair of Detroiters in my Fender Big Apple and I am blown away. They replaced a pair of SD Pearly Gates and they kill! I have played them through my Freidman modded Marshall, Diezel VH4, and Mesa triple Rec, and they sound great through all of them. I really want to try them in my Les Paul soon. I have played 57 classics for years so we will see if I can deal with a departure.

The Detroiters are great pickups! I have a set in a PRS CE 24 and I love them. They have more output than a person would expect and they sound huge without being nearly as compressed as the Super Distortions. The Super Distortions still have much higher output though. The Detroiters are really open sounding pickups, like a PAF style but a little more aggressive. They would work for the styles of music you listed.

I wouldn't go for the WBs unless you can get them used somewhere. Do a topic search on them and you'll see how many people have already been ripped off by the dude .

I had a buddy of mine have a horrible experience dealing with that guy. I'd never give that guy my business...I did a thread search and have found a few others who feel the same way.

I think I'm definitely going to go for the Detroiters. Anybody have any idea how much extra the Pitch Black covers are?

I remember too well the bashing that MC took here lately. I don't use MC PUs, but I know how low some folks will go to defame their competition. The interweb is full of such things, and there is very little recourse, legally.

Who is demeaning MCP??? I just said I was definitely going to buy a set, did you actually read that part or did you just have a knee-jerk reaction to a comment you misunderstood? My comment was in reference to the post that I quoted in my response to WB pickups. Just relating my experience with WB pickups and how that is not a viable option for me. I didn't come here to trash WB pickups and I wouldn't have even mentioned them at all if the subject wasn't brought up by somebody else. This thread is about the MCP Detroiter humbucker and that's all I'm interested in hearing about. If WB is a sore subject around here, I apologize but I didn't bring it up in the first place.

WB screwed me over awhile back. I never got all the
money back that I sent to him. I've learned after talking to others in the winding business that it's a common occurrence. I advise staying far away from that dude

It's cool. I understand. I belong to a couple of other BB's as well and I've seen my fair share of people who come on just to start something up, stir the shit and then leave.
