Motor City Pickups

The Afwayu is my favorite pick up for hard rock and metal. It is tight on the low end, has just enough mids and great sparkle and bite to leads without being harsh. If you've played Duncans, it is tight like the Custom on the low end and sings like a JB on the high end. It isn't too tight, or too compressed and dry either. I hate pick ups like that and I don't like ones that are too stiff either.

It is a high output pickup, so don't expect vintage voicing or anything like that. However, it does clean up very well. Excellent pick up all around.
I've always heard people say the Afwayu is like a cross bewteen the SH-5 Custom & the JB. I completely understand why they say that.

I just ordered a 53mm hothead on 4/6. Tracking # says it will be here tomorrow, we will see.
This is probably the world record for fastest Motor City Pickups order ever fulfilled.

I assume you mean 4/6 of last year.
@OldGtrGuy.......So you ordered the hothead P/U 4/6/26 or 4/6/??????????????? When exactly did you order it yearwise?

I'm pretty sure he meant this year, i was just joking because NO ONE gets their order from wade that quickly

You have to type in the secret password at checkout "Rigtalk"

Damn bro, what's the password to have an email answered? After the 9 month mark i was wondering if I missed something

Tbh I really think he just happened to have exactly what i wanted laying around.

Im not complaining as it sounds killer but there was glue all over the front and back of the bobbins, like if it was a big Corp company id have sent it back type of thing.

Not surprised. His pickups do sound good, but there are better sounding options out there from people who actually give a shit about their customer base :dunno:

Give me some examples, ive always wanted to try Bareknuckle but idk man, the Hot head is such a perfect pickup for what I like.

I havent tried a lot of different pickups but definitely a handful

I hate BKP :dunno: They do not sound great to me so if you like them i would take my opinions with a grain of salt

Wagner is the first place I would look, ironman for ceramic, godwood for alnico - both are best in class for what they do

Or, as @japetus mentioned, find a used Roxy or Sunset Strip made by scott

Lundgren makes great pickups, all the low tune guys love their m6

Fralin makes excellent pickups, the high output PAF is phenomenal

There's a million options, just depends on exactly what you're looking for

I’m a little bit interested in playing an MCP, but based on all this there is no way in hell I would pay for one. Dude is obviously poor at the business part of the thing.

I’ve got a winder local to me that makes great shit and if he has the materials on hand can turn them around in a weekend basically.

I definitely do not blame you at all and I could never fault anyone for that mentality. I have it myself to an extent, for example I would never pay three grand up front for someone to build me a guitar or anything like that.

I will however say we're talking $150 which isn't too much and as long as you're not in a rush can pay for it and then just forget about it, while there are several complaints about their quality of customer service I cannot recall a single time where anyone has said Wade has actually ripped them off.

I agree with you. For me it’s more so that I know I can get other pickups I like a lot very easily and quickly. So why wait for for an unknown that, realistically, isn’t going to blow my mind.

There isn’t really a right or wrong answer.

Wow - sorry to hear about all of these communication (or lack of) issues. It can be annoying for sure. I purchased two sets of pickups from MC circa 2009 with no issues, but that was a lifetime ago. I know his PUP's get high praise around here, but frankly I was not impressed. I had the 2nd Degree Black Belt and Detroiter sets.

Yeah the 2DBB is the pickup of his I like best.

But honestly its just a bit less good than a Godwood I can get anywhere on the internet and much, much less good than a roxy or sunset that i can get with some digging

Or a Duncan Whole Lotta Humbucker bridge if "hot vintage" is the goal. I swear, that one is one of the best bridge pickups I have ever used.
