Movies that don't suck

My youngest son wanted to see this movie as he is an avid player and I figured it would be great son/father time. My expectations were VERY low. Turned out I was pleasantly surprised, and what I didn't know (because I didn't look) was that Jason Momoa and Jack Black are in it. It had a decent lead in to the 'plot' and the graphics were top notch. My son said they did a good job of recreating the features and creatures. It must have been a ton of green screen time for these actors as you can imagine.

May not be worth the cost of entry to a theatre (IMAX), but probably worth catching on a stream - especially if you are remotely aware of the game.

:dunno:

Watched "The Thing" for the first time the other day.
Was actually pretty good and makes me miss movie effects pre CGI takeover.

I love The Thing.

Absolutely one of my favourite movies. Somehow it's one of very-few films I'll watch free-to-air (with ads) if I happen to stumble upon it.

The other main ones would have to be any of the Fistful of Dollars Trilogy, Rambo ~ First Blood and the original Jaws.

I mean, if The Empire Strikes Back and other greats were shown, the same would apply to them too, but alas, we work with what we're given, we with zero budgets. :dunno:

Love that movie. Feels like just yesterday Nicky we were talking about that movie. The Thing #2 sucked IIRC.

Watched Fury Road again last night for the N teenth time. Still see new stuff.

It's on Youtube is where I actually watched it. Pretty sure I saw the Rambo movies on the sidebar when I was watching. Might want to check if they're ones you like. Never really watched youtube movies and figured it was going to be all like 30s-50s movies like at the library.

Tried to watch the newer Thing movie afterwards and got bored pretty quick. It seemed like at first it was the Norwegian story line, but seems like maybe it was kinda combined? Didn't get far into it before turning it off, tbh.

It's always crazy seeing certain actors when they were younger. Or when they used to be older than you in a film and now you are older than they were at the time. Kurt Russel has been around since he was a kid. Crazy stuff.

Watching Deja Vu with Denzel Washington and Val Kilmer. Pretty damn good. Would watch again. Almost quit half way through due to the time travel thing as it seemed far fetched but glad I hung in there.

Seems like an odd couple. Haven't heard of that one before.

I kept seeing previews for Sinners in front of everything I've seen for months, and it got to the point where I wrote that movie off. Then it came out, and my buddy said it got good reviews, so we went. It was good. Trailers are fucking up the movie experience, so if you don't know, go see it blind and it's awesome. The guitar parts are spot on.

I will check it out.

I rarely watch trailers anymore. And if they come one TV or YT or whatever, I turn away. For me, trailers usually give away too much information. However, if it is a movie I'm pretty sure I won't watch - I'll watch the trailer for that so I can confirm my suspicion.

I expected The Thing prequel to suck.

It did not. Very-similar to the original but lacked that classic vibe.

Is this a newer one than from about 10 or so years ago? I only began to watch that one before I lost interest, but is that what that was a prequel? Thought that's where they were going with it, but didn't seem to line up.

Yes Sister Lisa; it was the 2011 Prequel.

A nice touch was that they introduced that "one-note baseline" from the original right at the end, reminding us that the original movie follows this one.

All it really needed IMHO was a character (and actor) like Kurt Russel. The lead chick was decent in the equivalent role but she lacked gravitas.

Alright, it just seemed like they were blending the two stories and wasn't sure if it was a prequel. Which is what I thought it was at first. Will have to finish watching it.
