My partso is the brownie in the avatar. Love the bastid. Rings like crazy! Not as well constructed as the Anderson next to it (duh! TA loses more guitar building knowledge during a left-cheek sneak than I'll ever have), but its a loud, rude mofo!

That's what's so cool about these types of guitars! They're NOT perfect! They're meant to be PLAYED! Played hard!

Yay for mutts/parts guitars! :D

Mutt '87 Kramer. Had a beak style neck built for it, re-did all the electronics with quality stuff (Suhr Fletcher-Landau and Motor City BlisterBucker pickups), new chrome floyd. The only stock piece is the body.  :

Jamerson parts Charvel-clone. Just grabbed the parts of eBay and slapped 'er together. Alder body that was painted by Jamerson. Crazy flamed maple neck with striped ebony fretboard that I got for like - $285. Try doing that at Warmoth! Duncan Custom 5 pickup, which I LOVE!:

My old baby - '82 Kramer Pacer. Re-fined and new neck I had made. Everything except the body is new stuff as well - complete mutt! Mojave low output hum. Solid maple body and weighs a ton, but has the VH tone in spades to me. Needs a setup right now!:

yeah.. the series 10 is a cheap plywood body in metalic pink. pure 80's vibe. however the bridge pup is one of the old dimarzio sd-1 super distortions. it's a louder wanker for sure. i've still got the stock pup in the neck.. but i've got a couple of stock jackson pups laying around after i replaced the ones in my rhodes with l 500's. the rhodes sounds great.. but it's not a beater.
still got some measuring to do. the string spacing is alright but i haven't measured to see if i've got to offset the bridge a hair to compensate the string spacing and whether i've got to shim the bridge to raise it to the right height. i've got some raw brass stock laying around for that.

I've heard plywood can sound great! LOL! :D

it's cheap.. but with the old sd in there it sounds pretty good. i put kaman ping tuners on it because it wouldn't hold tune no matter what. the original bridge was some chinese made white metal pos. it had to go.

A couple things I've learned not to skimp on...
1) Bridge
2) Neck.

If those 2 things are good, the guitar will be good.

the neck is o.k. at least the frets are level.. not well set.. but level.. and none are loose. i've also tapped the body checking for dead spots where the laminations may have come unglued. didn't find any.. so far. the accutune is a chromed brass korean kahler clone. it's got some weight and i don't think it was a cheap after market part. the workmanship seems quite solid. should yield some added tone and sustain. hence the maple block in the old vintage route.
gotta run. i've got a trade show to set up tonight and a broadway musical in the morning. (billy joel's movin' out). yikes.. i've been on a perpetual tour of the state the past six weeks. not bitchin'.. just busy.

Yeah the leveling makes a huge difference!
I have a brass block on one of my floyds... it REALLY makes a big difference.

i think it'll make a huge difference.. especially in tone transfer and sustain. gotta run.

Here's a Charvel/Jackson mutt I had for a while. Pretty cool axe

How did that neck come out?

Was it unfinished and sort of rough?

Fretwork?

Thanks!
The neck was finished very well (MUCH better than the fucked up neck Frankenstraat sent me - that required re-shaping, piece of shit that I had to pay a lot to salvage), but if I'm being honest, there were issues - Floyd shelf too short and not deep enough... a few other things. All in all, everything was fixable and the neck is great now (the birdseye maple he used was eye-popping - very nice) so I have no complaints. Had to have a fret level and polish, but hell, I've not bought a neck from anyone (including Warmoth, etc.) that didn't require that... I was satisfied overall, but don't expect it to be perfect... this neck is unbelieveably thick too, even thicker than a real Kramer beak - and those were fat necks! It certainly wasn't exact Kramer standard...

My drummer is friends with Kyle.

I've met him more than a few times, but we dont hang out or anything.

The last time I saw him he brought out a Frankenstrat that he'd just finished. The body seemed a very accurate representation, but that neck just didnt feel right to me.

I didnt plug it in or anything, and I WAS pretty high at the time, so my memory could be off, but that was the impression I got.

I'm sure he's getting better at it all the time.

a couple pics of my latest mutt project.

it's a korean made accutune kahler roller clone. i threw the pic of the meter in there because i just picked it up over the weekend. the meter is a greenlee dm 300. it can test circuits up to cat 4 and can read ac voltages through a built in antenna. about the only test i can't perform with it is capacitance. i got it for 33 usd at a liquidation store. checks diodes too.
