I've still got the mutt urge but after spending some time reading up on it I think I might actually build a tele. As in raw body blank build a tele. Maybe just the body. I don't have the tools for fretting a neck yet...

I've thought about that. I'm slowly building up some guitar-specific tools.

You may have already been here, but check this out:

Lots of cool threads there like this one:

Yeah that's a cool site!
I love those build threads.

Whoaaaa Gary, What model neck is that on the Jackson?

The neck is from a USA DR2 (ebony FB 22 Jumbo frets)

Its got a "paper thin" profile which is a #1 pre-requisite for all my guitars.

The Body is a old Charvel Predator loaded with an Old NOS Kramer Floyd.

Damn man, you always pop up with random AWESOME Jackson/Charvel mutts, how do you do it?  I need to know

Musicgoround.com and time (been collecting since 2000)

in 1999, sold all my kramers and became a full-fleged jackson freak with the purchase of my 1st Jackson - a 1994 Fusion HH

soon realized that to have "my perfect" jackson shredder I would have to "roll my own".

what you see in the pictures is the culmination of my quest.

btw, how did your the flametop veener project come along ? (- it was looking like a very nice job )

Oh MAN, it came out nice! I'm on the market for a new neck, but it's hard to find a maple fretboard AANJ :(

I'll post a pic or two since it's technically a mutt now :)

You painted that other guitar with the Alsa paint you got from Ebay right? If so, did it come in a rattle can? Or did you use Prevail/Spray gun?

actually the body came pre-painted and routed but not pre-drilled. i ordered it from a guy who owns a small music store in a little town not far from here. the funny part about this project was that i had certain things in mind when i started. i wanted a white body and a white pearloid pickguard.. so that's what i ordered. when the body came in it was red.. and the only pickguard he had was black. i asked about it and the guy said that was the only color they had in stock at the time and if i wanted white i'd have to wait six weeks. i wanted to build it from parts available locally.. but couldn't find what i wanted.. so i made do with what was available rather than order a bunch of parts and wait weeks for them to arrive.
the other guitar is still its original metallic pink.. straight out of the '80's. i bought it for 25 bucks from a guy i used to work with. so far i've invested 35 bucks on tuners and that's about it. the rest is coming from parts i have sitting around and have re-conditioned.
