Right now i'm just running straight into my amp (Peavey Ultra Plus) with no pedals or EQ. I'm thinking i want an EQ to define my tone more. I've read great reviews on the MXR, i'd just like to hear some other opinions.

Between the two I preferred the GE-7, particularly if you get one that's modded to lower the noise. Just like what it does better than the MXR.

I have both. I'd recommend the MXR for the Peavey. Amps with low mids, MXR. Bright, high mid Marshall types, GE-7. Having both comes in handy.

Sometimes, I actually used both. Boost the low end a bit in the loop, tighten them up in front.

Danelectro Fish n Chips is usually about $30 and does the job just fine, without the added noise of the MXR or the BOSS. I've used one for years with zero issues.

-I used to have a very good, and very expensive tube driven parametric EQ-(ASHLEY)- but for me, it was just too much, just a fraction of a adjustment made a huge difference, and as interactive as they are it just was major over kill, a lot of pro's use them, but I feel if you need that amount EQ, it means you have the wrong amp, and said amp requires a "paramedic" EQ,..

-or maybe just me trying to rationalize my lack of "patients" & inability to use one.

Same here. I've got a Boss EQ as well. Compared to the Boss, the FnC costs way less, isn't noisy, and sounds better.

I went ahead and ordered the MXR 6 band, i went with the 6 for now just because of cost.

In my personal experience, the MXR was a little quieter and more transparent. However, the GE7 seemed to have a little more fullness. I ended up modifying a GE7 to be quieter and I like it quite a bit. I actually use it as a clean boost in front of a distorted amp. If you're looking to use it for tone shaping as more of a conventional EQ, the MXR is probably a slightly better option. I like the design of the MXR better with the illuminated sliders as well.

I Sniper mod'd my GE-7..love it as a boost in front of the amp, despite that it still adds little noise.
