Was messing around with the newer MXR Yngwie pedal and made this clip. I really like the feel of the pedal - I think it does a good job keeping the feel of the DOD 250, but wayyyyy less noise. Clip is bone dry and I play some at the end with pauses so you can hear the noise floor. I used my LTD TE-201 with Dimarzio Heavy Blues 2 pup> MXR Yngwie pedal >Blankenship Masterplex>Marshall 1960BX with Eminence Cv-75 speakers

Always enjoy your vids and lead playing. Those endless sounding runs are my favorite.

I've had one of the DOD sig pedals forever. It works well with Marshalls which is not something I need a lot, but it lives at the studio in case someone brings one in.

yeah that’s the classic setup for sure!!

thanks man!! I think this new one uses a 4558, you think that’s why it’s less noisy than all the other 250 and spinoffs?
the original used a 741 ... there's different variants on a 4558 chip these days ... and they are all SUPER close to each other as far as specs ..

the newer YJM pedal I googled is using a RC4558 .... there's JRC4558's ... NJM4558's ( which say JRC4558 on them ) etc ...

all sound really good ... the differences are really slight in sound and performance

the PCB might be layed out better .... with more modern grounding schemes/planes ...

sounds like you're making it work !

Mr. Malmsteen single handedly demonstrated to me that single coils and twang have a place in metal.

But you need a boost. And my favorite is the Fender YJM OD. I don't know (or particularly care) about the # of the chip, but I know I owned it along with a DOD Preamp 250, and eventually sold the DOD. The Fender is definitely more aggressive, but can be dialed back if needed.

did you ever compare the reissue DOD 50th anniversary to your Yngwie pedal?

hey man thanks!!! No I don’t have the new 50th anniversary. I do gave a Chicago Stompworks “Grey Spec” which is supposed to be a great recreation of the old one. The new MXR definitely has more gain and way less noisy. But the feel of both of them is very similar. I’m a fan of the MXR

It is way overpriced but i feel like getting one of the 50th anniversary pedals because it gives you 3 voicings. My RR Distortion + is hit or miss with my amps and I think the 50th anniversary on germanium setting will be tighter and like I am running an EQ after the Distortion +. I have a first gen DOD YJM sig with some grey specs mod to it and it is a fantastic pedal but I am always on the hunt.

I hear you about about always on the hunt lol I had grey spec mod done to my dod yjm as well. I still prefer this MXR. So much quieter and still has that cool feel of the DOD models.

You've got me interested! The thing i like about the later Yngwie revisions is that they are "tighter" ..some of the grey spec are voiced perfectly for singles but then not tight enough for humbuckers. That said, that fullness is likely what made Yngwie's earlier tone sound "warmer". But ultimately, step on it and buuuuuurn no matter the spec. I love Yngwie. The pirate shirts, the jewelry, the pretending to be a classical composer. Everything. He's a legend.
