My 33yo tranny blew me hard this morning

93 mustang GT 15K miles.
Bought new.
Started fine.
Ran for a few miles.
Went to hit the gas and it felt like i was in neutral
Finally caught and redlining and barely moving
Then caught again and started shuddering.

I was able to make it home going easy on the gas.
Fluid levels are ok.

Time for a shop.

That sucks. Does the car get driven regularly? When was the last time the fluid was changed? On my automatic transmissions I usually keep the fluid fresh on my trucks every 50-70K and or 5 years whichever comes first even if they say the fluid is 100K fluid. I have one truck with 265,000 miles original transmission and it tows alot.

I hope you get it resolved for not much $. Sometimes things just go.

Show car.
Put about 300 miles a year.
T Fluid flushed every 8 yrs or so
Anti freeze 5 yrs
Oil i do every inspection
Battery hoses and belts 10 yrs

A good friend of mine always used to say the worst thing you can do for any car or truck is just let them sit. I'm in the middle of a major service on my oldest truck right now (Its a 2004 Ram 2500 w/ Hemi) and it's been on my lift for two weeks waiting on some parts. It runs strong and it don't owe me a thing, it's been the best truck I ever owned but it gets alot of preventative maintenance.... KNOCK ON WOOD!

When I'm done with it it will go to the shop for coolant flush/sill and transmission flush and fill, it has 65K on the transmission fluid and transfer case fluid right now. The way I Iook at it is fluid and labor is cheaper than a transmission.

A friend of mine is the service manager at a Dodge dealership that takes care of stuff I don't want to do anymore so at this point it's an experiment if it gets to 300K or more like Al Bundy's million mile Plymouth Fury Station Wagon.

Met a ford tech on the golf course.
Explained the problem.

He knew right away what it was.
TV bushing.

Even came to the house to show me how to fix it

$5 part and running fine
