Hey guys, so here is a fun video of my amp collection. Just 'showing it off', so no clips to be found. If you are interested in how the amps sound, I did a 'High Gain Amp Shootout' where I actually play the amps (I didn't have the Naylor for that video). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjxyx0C1bp4

The amps are as follows

Marshall JMP 2204
Soldano Atomic 16
Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier (Rev C, #98)
Marshall JCM 800 2203X
Marshall 2203 JMP (Friedman modded)
Naylor Dual 60 (High Drive Option)

I've found that I'm a Marshall guy through and through, so most of them lean in that direction.

Thanks for watching!

Great comparison video.
Love the tone from all of them.

What was the recording chain?
How many tracks?

Thanks

cool amps, and I am also curious about the Naylor, I have been for a long time actually!

Me too....need Naylor info please. I've wanted one of these for a while now. Very cool collection you have.

Is that one of the post-Naylor Naylor's? After he sold the company to that guy in Texas?

Yep, sure is. Definitely the best built amp I own. I opened it up and it's all point to point handwired. Super neat and very thick board.

I'll see if I can put together a Naylor vid this weekend :).

I recently acquired a Naylor Duel 100. It hangs with anything Friedman, Soldano, etc...
Really dig it. Don't wanna hi-jack OP's thread with pics and clips.
Here's a thread over on TGP I started when I got it:

Great amp. Very versatile drive channel, great clean channel, great master volume and effects loop, great build quality. I think anyone into amps should have one at least once.

Enjoyed the amp shootout! Dig the riffs on it and your preorder vid.
The Mesa, Friedman mod, 2204 and 2203 sounded great to me.
How does the Naylor stack up, soundwise, in your opinion?

Very cool! The Naylor is by far best quality amp I own. It's a little on the darker side tone wis, so I tend to crank the Treble and Presence. I'm so used to old Marshalls, so I need to have the high end in there. I really bought it for recording purposes, so I don't even need the clean channel, but it's a nice bonus.

It definitely stacks up with all my other amps. It's in the Marshall camp, but darker. I see the Friedman as smoother Marshall, and this is even smoother. You don't always want smooth, but this is the amp if you need it.

I'll be doing a video this weekend :).

^Nice! Sounds great. I just finished playing my LP through mine, with a TS pushing it, gain around 3pm. Killer.

I agree, the Duel is a very smooth amp, that can be dark. I keep the presence at or near maxed. The Superdrive utilizes the bite switch on the drive channel, so it can get brighter. I find, with the Duel, that leaving the presence maxed and using the treble around noon gets me the brightness I need. At that setting, it is much like my '77 JMP 2204. Having a Celestion H75 in my cab helps bring out the highs.

The attack is unlike any other amp I've had. There's a juiciness to it, hard to describe.
I'm glad you posted the video. It sounds great and does a good job at showing off some of the sounds that the amp is capable of. I notice you have the bass pulled way back. I keep mine cranked. It's a lot at lower volumes, but evens out when the master gets turned up. Nice guitar!!!

Thanks man! Yeah, for recording purposes, I typically turn down the bass. It's just a habit from when I record guitar for a band situation. Plus, the R121 Ribbon mic tends to accentuate the bass anyway.

I'm talking to Dave King from Naylor about moving the Bite switch over to the master volume. That way, I can use it on both channels at once. It's easy, so I'll just do it myself.

My main live rig is a JMP 2204 ;).

That's a mod I'd be interested in doing. Let me know how it works out if you do it!
As much as I love the Naylor, I'd sell it before selling the JMP.
With some volume, the 2204 is one of the best sounding and most fun amps I've had. It's one of the few master volume amps that feels like a nmv when cranked. I'd have kept a 69 Bassman if I could play loud all the time. It might have been the best amp for clean to hard rock that I've ever played, and for only $600! I'd take that one back, if I could do it again. Just so freakin loud. The 2204 is right up there with it, tonewise, but with more controllable volume.
