I bought a BOSS EQ-200 pedal for an amp I bought that I wanted to change the voicing on rather than opening it up and changing stuff inside. It worked great for that so I tried in the loop of my main rig and I liked what I could do with it, like having an instant tone change to scooped. I didn't use it much though, it wasn't an always on effect like it was with the other amp.

This morning I wondered if it was sucking any tone?

It's for sale. Experiment Complete

I've only owned 4 Boss pedals, with my first being a Metal Zone 20 years ago. After a few years I stopped using them due to noticeable tone suck. The Metal Zone was sold first, then a GE-7 which I quickly replaced with a quieter Dano Fish-N-Chips. I had an NS-2 which went to a friend (wasn't sure if it worked at the time), and only in recent years sold the Tremolo which never got used. I replaced it with a warmer sounding Behringer clone, which I also don't use...

I've recently become interested in the SD-1 and the new Waza HM-2 that's in the works. Supposedly the buffers in the Waza pedals are a bit better. I wonder if the new pedals with tiny surface mounted components sound any different? It would be cool to hear a shootout but I haven't come across any yet. So yeah, I noticed the tone suck early on, but they seem to work fine for a lot of people including famous players. Nobody can hear the difference live I'm sure, and in the studio so much of the signal gets processed anyway. It's more of a feel thing as well, I think.

Besides Suhr, Boss has the best buffers. Stock SD1's and GE7's rule...

I never noticed the tone suck with some Boss pedals until I tried to use their noise gate. Up front, in the loop, or with the 4CM, their was a very noticeable tone suck. Messed with it for a year with 4 different amps and could never gel with it.

Recently picked up a DD-500 and I don't have that issue at all. Still learning how to work this one but pretty sure I can set it to run with the buffer or true bypass.
