Looks awesome, very interesting that he doesn't use paint. Love to see a close up on that inlay. I really like unique pieces such as this.

explorers are not really my thing but that is beautiful. congrats.

Not really my thing either. They can be a little awkward to play. But, I will learn to adapt :D

That thing is NICE

KL makes the sweetest Explorers...I'd settle for a plainer top but really couldn't say no to one of these.

Congrats! \m/

I love your guitar your getting, i contacted ken a couple months ago about some ideas i had but nothing happened because i didn't wanna wait 2 yrs. I'm kinda sorry i didn't get in touch with him sooner because he had a few extra bodies he started and nobody had deposits on them, i think you will be very happy with it.

I was at his shop about six months ago. Steve if you go you will see Hetfield's new explorer hanging on the wall, its like all Cocobolo and when I was there they had still not decided on a inlay design yet.

That Cocobolo is cool. I like the Chechen a little better though. Any of them though are just awesome. Hand made is hand made. I wasn't planning to have any fancy inlay work done on mine, but since this one was ready, and it looks cool as hell. One of a kind....and I get my initials inlayed in the back of the head stock. Uber-cool !!!

that is definately a sweet guitar man ... congrats on the score !

Nice.

I started talking with Ken the other day about having a guitar built, but first I need to figure out what I really want. I kind of want to do my own thing and not have a Hetfield copy. My thing would be to have it laid back and understated... but if I'm going to dump 6+ grand into a guitar I don't want it to be just another jet black Explorer with a different headstock.

So many decisions....

Yeah, agreed on that. I would have not even thought to go with the petroglyph on the fret board, but it is cool as shit, nevertheless. Ken will design for you (at a cost) and inlay what you want. I am not sure what inlay Het has on his guitar and I wouldn't want a duplicate either. Hell, I would be happy with dots, as long as it had the optics. The only thing I did want was the Chechen top and head cap and Brazilian Rosewood. You can't really see it, but the fingerboard wood texture is one of a kind.

Good luck with your decision!

The grain on that fretboard is outstanding. I've never seen a piece of rosewood with that much figuring.

Ken went through the run down on standard options with me... just not sure which way to go. But, it's not like I don't have a lot of time to think about it....
