NAD: 90s Dual Rec Reissue

Picked up a 90s Reissue Dual Rec over the weekend. Always liked the chrome chassis/black treadplate look, but finding a 240v early revision for a decent price was almost impossible. I was really happy when Mesa reissued the Dual Rec with that finish, but I think RRP on them is too steep and the chances of seeing one second hand around here for a decent price seemed pretty low.

Was randomly checking out used sections online and one popped up for sale locally. Drove to the shop to check it out and really liked it. The downside was I had to part with an amp to get it and sadly said goodby to my VH4. It’s a killer amp and sounds awesome, but it was a bit too clinical for me and so it wasn’t getting used much.

In the end a guy who works there cut a deal to buy it from me direct, so I got my Dual Rec, he got the VH4 (which will see some live use, which is cool) and the shop got cash, so I think everyone did well out of it. Had major second thoughts while he was demoing it - he’s a good player and it sounded really good….. Pretty sure I’ll own another at some point.

I’d never played a Dual Rec before and (surprise, surprise) it couldn’t be much more different to the Diezel. From “clinical” and “direct” to “messy” and “huge” - although my other half told me she can’t tell the difference 😂 She liked the chrome chassis though - told me how nice and shiny it was, right before touching it and leaving me to clean her fingerprints off it 🤦‍♂️

Enjoying playing around with different boosts to see what works. Koko boost is currently edging it but I have a Waza SD1 and a TS9 on the way, so we’ll see if it lasts.

That's awesome. I miss my rectifier and I'm waiting for another one to fall into my lap.

You gotta run the Rectifier and the Stiletto in stereo. That's one of my favorite sounds.

Sounds like a great deal to me

Looks like you have all the basic tonal building blocks in that room.

I have yet to play one but looking forward to it. To tighten my OG 90's G to C I sometimes patch the loop and engage it, an NS2, on red/silicone/bold, treble up bass down and you can also try the treble on '0' trick.

Thanks all 👍 Yeah, I really need to try running the Stiletto with the Dual Rec….

Try a Dirty Tree. In front of a Recto, it's hard to beat that boost.

Also, try a RAT. I don't hear a ton of people talking about using it as a boost but it's awesome for that.

Congrats. I don't know if I would have gotten rid of a vh4 for it, but as long as you are happy with it. With a boost they are hard to beat.
